Amity University, Mumbai has been the career boost I was looking for: Asmita Chanda

I have always had a liking towards the media industry and thus my aim was very clear that I would pursue something in the lines of journalism and mass communication. I am an Arts student and since my 10th grade, I always had my vision very clear that I wanted to pursue arts.

I had a liking for learning about the past, learning economics, going through political news, learning more about the English language, etc. Public relations and corporate communications were something I had always wanted to learn. In our school, we had a counseling session which helped us choose our streams for further studies. I never developed any liking towards any other stream other than arts.

I always had Amity University, Mumbai on my mind while I was still in school. It has always been kind of a dream college. So without wasting much of time after my schooling, I exactly knew what I wanted to do. I got myself enrolled in the journalism and mass communication department. As Mumbai is the hub for the media industry, it was very apt for my future. The decision was very wise on my part and I know I have done the best for myself. I was extremely headfast that I wanted to go to Amity University, Mumbai and thus I did not look for any other college. I always had this college in my mind and refrained from any other option because it would complicate things further. I always believe in keeping eyes set at one goal.

With a very good score in my CBSE 12th Board exams, I knew exactly what I wanted to do next. After the initial process online, I was asked to sit for a written test. For the written test, I basically brushed my grammar skills, practiced some professional writing and learned about the media world as much as I could. The written test was fairly easy and I got selected for the personal interview round. The questions asked to me were easy, they basically wanted to know why I wanted to pursue the course. All in all, it was a very easy process without much hassle. The process took place smoothly and was easy too. We got our results in two weeks’ time. I was extremely happy when I got to know that I was selected and I was super excited to spend my three years in this college.

I love each and every moment spent in this college. Every day is like a fresh beginning with new sets of challenges and I like conquering them. All the subjects taught to us are extremely interesting. We get to learn so much on a daily basis that sometimes it becomes a bit difficult to keep up with them. But that’s the challenge, right? Learning, processing and again learning.

The university offers you a mixed variety of people. It has students from all over India and abroad. I have met some amazingly talented people who never miss a chance to take me by awe with their knowledge and smartness. All my day in college is spent either in lectures or in working. I am currently the editor of the annual magazine of the college and thus the work related to that keeps me busy a lot. The college has really helped shape me as a person who I am today. It has served as a home away from home and has never let me feel homesick. Thanks to so many creative and lovely souls in the college because of whom every day feels new and I look forward to it.

My extra-curricular activities mainly deal with playing basketball post college hours, working for seminars, conducting events, coordinating for some event or fests, etc. As I am very much involved with the cultural department, I look for arranging different fests, competitions, etc. I believe extra-curricular activities play a very crucial role in shaping us. They teach us the art of management, team playing, and organizing skills.

Amity University, Mumbai has been the career boost I was looking for. It has helped me grow as a person. I can definitely say that I have evolved a lot as a person and this university has played a major role in making me the way I am today.
