The IIM Calcutta is a business school in West Bengal. This is the first Indian business school to be founded, and in 2017 the Indian government designated it as a National Significant Institution. IIM Calcutta's Doctoral Program Alumni 

The doctoral students of IIM Calcutta frequently land faculty positions at the nation’s top business schools, including the IIMs (Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, Lucknow, Indore, Kozhikode, Tiruchirappalli, Ranchi, Visakhapatnam, Bodhgaya), IIT Kharagpur, IIT Kanpur, ISI Calcutta, Great Lakes Institute of Management, MDI, XLRI, and SPJIMR, among others. Many of them have also attained academic positions at prestigious colleges and business schools that are ranked among the top 30 in the 2016 Financial Times Rankings. Ajay Kalra (the Herbert S Autrey Professor of Marketing at Rice University), Monideepa Tarafdar ( a Professor at Lancaster University’s Management School), and Sebastian Morris (Professor of Economics at IIM Ahmedabad) are a few well-known alumni of IIM Calcutta in the teaching sector. 

Many of IIMC's doctoral students have gone on to lead specialised research organisations and think tanks for Public Policy. Q:   Is IIM Kolkata good for MBA?

IIM Calcutta is one of the top Management institutes in the country. In the NIRF 2024 rankings, it is ranked #5 under the Management category. The placement rate recorded during 2024-25 placement was 100%. As per the latest report, the highest package offered in IIM Kolkata 2024 placements is recorded to be INR 1.2 crore per annum. The total number of companies that participated in the placement drive were 194. Moreover, the top recruiting sector was Consulting with 31.6% offers.

Considering the institute's ranking and placement data, it is easy to say that it is one of the top institute for MBA in India. The ROI for the course is also great.

In collaboration with the Alfred P. Sloan School of Management (MIT),  The Ford Foundation and Indian industry, and the Government of West Bengal,  IIM Calcutta was established in the year 1961. Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta is ranked four by NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework) 2023 under the Management category. 1. Ramchandra Guha

Ramachandra Guha is an Indian historian, author, and philosopher whose areas of expertise include economics, social policy, politics, the environment, and the history of cricket. His pieces are published in a number of other newspapers, including The Telegraph, the Hindustan Times, the Hindi daily and Amar Ujala. He obtained a Ph.D. in the history of forestry in Uttarakhand in addition to researching the Chipuco movement at the Indian Institute of Management.

2. Sunil Duggal

An executive and businessman from India, Sunil Duggal. He was the previous CEO of Dabur, the biggest producer of ayurvedic medicines in India. Duggal possesses an Indian Master of Business Administration from Kolkata School of Management and a Bachelor of Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology and Science. Duggal graduated with an MBA from the IIM Calcutta.

3. Amish Tripathi

Amish Tripathi is an author from India. He is well-known for the Ram Chandra and Shiva trilogies of literature. The Ram Chandra series is the second-best-selling series in Indian publishing history, behind the Shiva trilogy, which has sold the most copies overall. He graduated from IIM Calcutta.

4. Indra Nooyi

Indra Nooyi, an Indian executive chairman and chief executive officer of Pepsi, was born on October 28, 1955. She has been acknowledged as one of the 100 most powerful women in the world in recent years. She was listed as the 13th most powerful woman in the world by Forbes in 2014, and she was listed as the second most influential woman by Fortune in 2015. The Indian Institute of Management in Calcutta awarded Nooyi a Post Graduate Course Certificate in 1976.

IIM Calcutta Alumni Association Mumbai : 

IIM Calcutta Alumni Association was established as an official association to represent our alumni in Mumbai, but it has also represented their interests in Western India. The association was established in 2009 and is listed as a charity with the Mumbai Charity Commissioner. The association will keep the alumni informed about the many activities scheduled for the year and the upcoming years when they give their most recent contact information. Life members receive all the standard rights of members in exchange for a small one-time fee of INR 1,000. For example, membership in the Association entitles them to vote for candidates running for office in the association, the ability to run for elected posts in the chapter, special access to certain important events, selected updates from alma mater, etc.
