IIM Trichy’s PGPM now equal to Master’s from an Indian university

Indian Institute of Management, Trichy has added another event to its list of accomplishments. The postgraduate programme in management (PGPM) offered by the institute has now been declared equivalent to the Master’s degree of an Indian university with the purpose of getting enrolled for higher studies.
This certification from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) have given a legal consent to PGPM students from IIM Trichy to opt for higher studies in foreign universities. Furthermore, these students can also apply for government jobs as from now on, the PGPM degree obtained by them will be treated on par with an Indian University’s master’s degree.
Out of the existing IIMs, earlier the PGDM degrees at IIMs Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Indore, Bangalore, Kolkata and Kozhikode were equivalent to a Master’s degree of an Indian University. With this move, IIM Trichy had joined the list of these IIMs.
AIU has also stated that in the case of IIMs, the condition of AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) approval and NBA (National Board of Accrediation) accreditation will not be applicable.
The proposal for providing equivalence was made to AIU with an aim of providing ease to IIM Trichy’s students willing to pursue higher studies.
The proposal was presented before the Equivalence Committee once in a meeting held on January 5, 2017 and next on January 9, 2017 in the meeting of the governing council held in AIU House, Delhi. IIM Trichy director Dr. Prafulla Agnihotri revealed that the students have reacted positively to this move.

IIM Trichy has good summer placement record. More than 150 companies visited the campus during the summer placement drive 2025. The overall the highest stipend recorded during the summer placement drive 2025 was INR 3.5 lakh. The median stipend recorded was between INR 0.7 Lacs to 1.4 lakh.
