MICAT I Exam Analysis 2018

MICAT Exam Analysis- Common entrance exam, MICAT, was conducted today across the country, in online mode. The exam is conducted by MICA, Ahmedabad for admission to its MBA/PGDM programme. MICAT is conducted twice in a year. Today, MICAT I was conducted. MICAT II will be held in February 2019.

The MICAT Exam Analysis is now available for candidates to assess their performance. The MICAT I exam can be termed as moderate to easy with a couple of surprise questions thrown in.

MICAT I Exam 2018 had a lengthy Quantitative Ability section. Over all, the MICAT paper came with couple of surprises.

The MICAT I paper started with Psychometric Test and then followed by Descriptive Section which gave the students better opportunity to showcase their creative side before moving on to the Objective Section. The Argument Writing part in MICAT this year took students by surprise with a tempting topic “Equality is a myth”.  It did not have “Give your opinion” as the third section, but it asked to give 3 suggestions to make an equal world.

The psychometric test of MICAT I was indeed a relief for most students who have been passionately working hard for the same, and students who would have attended the MICA Psychometric Workshop since last year could relate to the similar questions. This section had a little time consuming questions which put some students under pressure for the last few questions.

Psychometric Test

The creative writing test part of MICAT exam was of the usual format with 4 pictures which tested on the skills to bring out the creativity within you to pass the gateway to their dream college, the Mecca of Marketing and Communications. The set of images were very interesting mix: a Red Brick Wall with a Tree, Parking lot with 7-8 parked cars, emoticon with the Research Magnifying Glass &  an under the microscope DNA symbol.

Verbal Ability:

Total 25 Questions

Good Attempts: 15-20 Questions Time to be spent: 30 minutes

Reasoning:

Total 30 Questions

Good Attempts: 18-22 Questions Time to be spent: 30 minutes

In the Objective section of the MICAT paper, the Quantitative Ability was a lengthy section with time consuming but not difficult questions which was doable for all students who prepare for CAT as well. Time management was the key to balance out all sections well.

Good Attempts: 13-15 Questions Time to be spent: 30 minutes 

GK section of MICAT I 2018 was completely based on marketing with lots of easy questions of Brands, Slogans and Taglines; CEO’s of top companies; branding with match the following logo questions. Reasoning dominated by word associations saw a couple of difficult ones but the rest were doable. Verbal continued to be one of the favorite sections for most of the students with a little lengthy Reading Comprehension.

Overall good attempts: 

Overall 65-70 attempts in MICAT Paper I are good. Sectional cutoffs have not been a significant criteria in MICA over the years so we expect the same unless there is something new in store this year.  Let's await the MICAT result in January first week till then relax.

The MICA aspirants who didn’t do well don’t get disheartened we have the February attempt.
