MICAT II 2020-21 has been conducted on January 30 in a changed exam pattern. The difficulty level has been marked as moderate. Read the detailed section-wise analysis here.

MICAT II Analysis

MICAT II has been conducted by MICA, Ahmedabad on January 30 in 48 cities across India. The exam pattern and question types were on similar lines as that of MICAT I. According to experts and test-takers, the difficulty level of MICAT II is higher than that of MICAT I. The Quantitative Aptitude and General Awareness sections were tougher than the rest of the areas. The MICAT exam pattern has undergone a number of changes. The total duration has been reduced from 165 minutes to 135 minutes. The number of questions in the subsections of Section C or the objective section has been made equal, which is 20. Before moving to the detailed section-wise analysis, let us take a look at the MICAT exam pattern.

Highlights of MICAT II

  • Each section was time-bound and it was not allowed to navigate across sections

  • A break of one minute was there after each section

  • Each question in Section C carried one mark and there was negative marking of 0.25 mark for each wrong answer

  • There was no negative marking scheme for Descriptive Test and Psychometric Test sections

  • Psychometric Test is a compulsory section to qualify in MICAT

Now let us take a look at the detailed sectional analysis of MICAT II.

MICAT II Analysis

Psychometric Test

There were 150 questions in the section. The questions of this section do not have any correct or incorrect answers. Candidates had to select the answer options spontaneously, which would reflect their personality traits. Around 33 questions were based on a situation or course of action and candidates had to mark either True or False. Rest of the 117 questions were about a particular personality trait or a course of action. Candidates had to select any one of the right options, which are as follows:

Descriptive Test

The first three questions were inter-connected. The topic for the first three questions was ‘Stone, Paper and Scissors – Bittersweet rivals make the best team’. For the first two questions, students had to write three points each, ‘for’ and ‘against’ the topic. These two questions carried 10 marks each.

The third question was on the topic ‘Suggest steps by which a young manager can implement the above statement to improve organizational output’. As per the instruction, the answer could not carry points from the first two questions. This question carried 20 marks.

The fourth question carried 30 marks and consisted of four pictures. Test-takers had to write down a particular pictorial combination (A-B-C-D or D-C-B-A or any such combination) and explain it with the help of a story. The pictures were related to 'a wallet with keys, three parrots perched on a water-bowl in a garden, a woman selling vegetables, and a power transmission line with a sunrise in the background’.

Divergent and Convergent Thinking

This section was on Reasoning and carried questions from the topics such as word-association, analogies, statement-assumption, data sufficiency, coding, puzzle(symbol-based logic + family tree) and visual reasoning questions. The questions were objective type and carried four answer options. The questions could be divided in Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning areas. The Verbal Ability section consisted of questions from the topics like Reading Comprehension, parajumbles, word pairs, paragraph completion and idioms. The table below brings the details of the question types.

Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation

In this section, 15 questions on Quantitative Ability and five questions on Data Interpretation. This section was considered to be among the toughest and time-consuming. The QA section was dominated by Arithmetic questions followed by Modern Math and Geometry. The topic-wise break up of the section is given in the table below.

General Awareness

In the General Awareness section, there were 12 questions on national issues and eight questions were on international topics. Maximum questions, i.e. 11 were on static GK whereas nine questions were on current affairs. The topics of the questions were business, ad agencies, authors, awards geography, economics, terms, laws and acts, and logos. According to experts, eight questions each could be classified as moderate and tough whereas four questions were easy.

As compared to MICAT I, the difficulty level of MICAT II could be considered as a notch higher. The result of MICAT II will be declared on February 14. Shortlisted candidates will have to appear for Group Exercise (GE) and Personal Interview (PI) rounds between March 9 and March 21.
