VARC is the first section of CAT exam and needs maximum concentration because of long RC passages and confusing parajumbles. In the last few days before CAT, candidates must do strategic revision to score high in this section. Here are some last week preparation tips for CAT VARC section 2025.
CAT preparation 2025 in last one week of the exam is very crucial. The last few days can boost or ruin your efforts put in previous months. Some candidates often go into relaxed mode once they start scoring well in CAT mocks. This can be dangerous. Especially in the CAT VARC section. Because you don't know the surprise awaiting you in the form of RC passages.
CAT 2025 exam will be held on November 30, 2025 so in the last week of the month, you must sit down and make a list of what is covered and what remains. Ignore what is left, and focus on what you've learnt so far. In this article, we will discuss last week preparation tips for CAT VARC.
To perform well in CAT VARC section, you must have have good reading and comprehension skills. Your English grammar should also be strong. But having good comprehension skills is not enough, you should be able to read fast and understand quickly. Most of the questions in CAT VARC are RC based which need speed reading and comprehension. Parajumbles and odd sentence questions can be very confusing.
In the last few days before the CAT 2025 exam, reading a novel or magazine to improve comprehension skills is of no use. At this time, focusing on verbal ability practice and referring RC passages of past years' exam will be helpful.

Focus on keywords
When preparing for the Reading Comprehension (RC) section of CAT exam, many students face one problem - they are unable to decode the Reading Comprehension section easily. The trick here is to not understand each and every word of the passage. Surprising, but true. All you need to do is understand the key theme of the passage. If the passage is fact/data based, note down the important data points on the rough paper that'll be given to you.
Challenge with CAT is that there are rarely data based RCs. Most of the times, the passages are inference based. Nonetheless, you can still note down important points from the passage. Also, just understanding the summary will not help. When preparing for CAT Reading Comprehension, make it a practice to remove unnecessary words, phrases, sentences, and focus only on keywords.

Time management is important
No matter how well-prepared you are for the CAT exam, if you do not manage the time correctly, all the efforts will go waste. The CAT 2025 exam will be of 120 minutes and VARC questions will have to be solved in 40 minutes only. So it is all the more important to have a sound time-management plan. In the last week of the CAT exam preparation, work on sample parajumbles. You have been practicing CAT mock tests so this shouldn't be a challenge. Once time management is in control, attempting the RC section will be a piece of cake for you. An important aspect of time management is choosing the right set of questions to solve. Once you go through the passage, make a quick analysis of whether you can answer the questions or not. Otherwise, move to the next set. Solving all the questions is not mandatory so don't even try that. Focus on the questions you're confident of.

CMAT syllabus is somewhat same as CAT syllabus. It has two extra subjects, Innovation and Entrepreneurship and General Awareness. However, these two subjects are not tough and can be covered alongside Quantitative Aptitude, English and Logical Reasoning. Despite having less subjects CAT is tougher than CMAT.

CAT exam is a national level MBA entrance exam conducted by the IIM. Every year, over 2.3 lakh candidates apply for it. Since the last two years, the competition has increased further with oveer 3 lakh candidates applying for the exam.
The CAT score is accepted by the Iims and all top MBA colleges in India. To select the best candidates from over 3 lakh test takers there is a need for stringent criteria. That's why, the CAT exam is tougher than other MBA entrance exams. Even though the syllabus of CAT is same as that of other MBA entrance exams, the question paper set by the IIM faculty always has tough questions. Moreover, CAT has sectional time limit for each section which is not there in any other exam except XAT. Having a time limit for each section adds pressure on candidates to complete solving adequate number of questions in a section within the time limit. If a student is weak in a particular subject, they can't use the time as per their need. CAT's Reading Comprehension passages are long and dense unlike other MBA exams. This is one more reason why most candidates feel CAT is tougher than any other MBA entrance exam.
