MICAT I 2020-21 has been conducted on December 5 in a changed exam pattern. The difficulty level has been marked as moderate. Read the detailed section-wise analysis here.

 

MICAT I 2020-21 Analysis

MICAT I for the academic year 2021-23 has been conducted on December 5. This year, the MICAT exam pattern has undergone changes in terms of duration and number of questions. The duration has been reduced by 30 minutes. The 2 hours 15 minutes duration test was conducted from 9 am to 11.15 am in 48 cities across India. According to the experts, the difficulty level of the exam was moderate. The General Awareness section was tough. The difficulty level of the other sections ranged from easy to moderate. Before moving to the detailed section-wise analysis, let us take a look at the MICAT exam pattern.

Highlights of MICAT I 2020-21

  • Each section was time-bound and it was not allowed to navigate across sections

  • A break of one minute was given after each section

  • Each question in Section C carried one mark and there was negative marking of 0.25 mark for each wrong answer

  • There was no negative marking scheme for Descriptive Test and Psychometric Test sections

  • Psychometric Test is a compulsory section to qualify in MICAT

MICAT I Section-wise Analysis

Psychometric Test

There is no correct or incorrect answer to the questions in this section. Around 33 questions were based on a situation or course of action and candidates had to mark either True or False. Rest of the 117 questions were about a particular personality trait or a course of action. Candidates had to select any one of the right options, which are as follows:

  • Somewhat Disagree

  • Somewhat Agree

  • Agree

  • Strongly Agree

  • Totally Agree

Descriptive Test

The first three questions were inter-connected. The topic given was ‘Since time cannot be stored, therefore, Time Saved is Time Wasted’. In the first two questions, candidates had to write three points in favour and against the topic. Ten marks each was allotted for the first two questions.

In the third question, the test-takers had to write an essay on the topic ‘Suggest steps by which a young manager should ensure that no time is saved’. As per the instructions, candidates were not allowed to include any point from the first two answers. This question carried 20 marks.

The fourth question was on writing a story based on four pictures given in the question. Candidates had to write in a particular pictorial combination (A-B-C-D or D-C-B-A or any such combination) and explain it with the help of a story. The pictures were related to: ‘farmer milking a buffalo, a colour illustration of seven little kids lying down on a playground in a happy mood, a single shoe with untied shoelaces, a colourful scarf hanging on a window grill’. This question carried 30 marks.

Divergent and Convergent Thinking

The difficulty level of this section was easy to moderate. The topics included word-association, analogies, statement-assumption, data sufficiency, coding and visual reasoning questions. This year, the number of answer options was four instead of five. The following table brings the topic-wise number of questions and difficulty level.

Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation

In this section, 15 questions were on Quantitative Ability and five were on Data Interpretation. The difficulty level of this section was Moderate. In the Quantitative Ability area, majority of the questions were on Arithmetic, followed by Modern Math and Geometry. General Awareness

Out of 20 questions, 15 were on Static GK and five were on current affairs. This section was considered to be tough. The topics of the questions were business, ad agencies, authors, awards geography, economics, terms, laws and acts, and logos. As many as nine questions were on international topics.
