I work hard to fulfil my dreams & always believes in being optimistic, says Joe Amal Antony
By: Joe Amal Antony
I used to manage both my studies and sports quite well. I used to attend all my classes regularly along with my training. I balanced both my profession and passion perfectly. I am an introvert person who does not speak to others that easily.
School memories are always the best. I did my schooling at St.John's Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Madurai. I scored 90 percent in my 10th board exams (SSLC). I took Computer Science as a major and completed my schooling with 80% of marks. My school was amazing and wonderful as I learned a lot of things here.
My passion for sports made me popular in my district and division. When the HSC results came I was in absolute dilemma of choosing what to study next. Though I wanted to become a pilot, I had no financial support to pursue this dream of mine. I opted for computer applications in The American College, Madurai which is situated in my hometown. I was a bit pessimist and naive during my first year of the undergraduate course. But later I decided to be positive in every situation.
Regular training and studying were my normal routine during my undergraduate days. Honestly, I had a great mentor to guide me. I was also confused like any other student about what to do next after graduation. Before pursuing any course I thought about my capabilities, interests, strengths and weaknesses. After analyzing, I decided to pursue MBA and fortunately, I got admission at Thiagarajar School of Management, Madurai.
I searched for the best MBA institutions. I researched about their eligibility criteria and shortlisted a few. I registered for MAT exam (Management Aptitude Test) and started my preparations. I did self-preparation with the help of online videos and YouTube lectures. I practised through previous year question papers and mock tests. Surprisingly I scored 78% in the exam. I didn't think of applying to other management entrance exams like CAT, XAT and TANCET. I applied for one and got a decent score.
I confidently entered into Thiagarajar School of Management, Madurai for my Group Discussion and Personal Interview. It was my first group discussion and interview process in my life. They made me feel comfortable during the process and therefore I was able to complete the entire process properly. Admission team members were amazing and that pushed me to join here. This was the only institute in which I applied and I got it. My parents have always been very supportive in my decision and allowed me to live my life on my terms.
As I was in sports, I used to manage both my studies and sports quite well. I used to attend all my classes regularly along with my training. I balanced both my profession and passion perfectly. I am an introvert person who does not speak to others that easily. But I got some good friends who made my college life wonderful. We learn new things and enjoy our time in college. But now because of this pandemic, we don’t get opportunities to meet. I spend most of my time in practical classes or reading books. I also spend my time in the canteen during the break.
I am an active person. I hate sitting infront of a computer doing a monotonous job. I want to do some meaningful and adventurous job. I believed that MBA will give me that experience and thus I opted it. I love to attend operations and analytics classes. I am in the sports club where we organize sports activities for the college. I strongly believe that I have leadership qualities. I am also interested in cultural activities and I did lead roles in some short films. I love acting too.
Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam is one of my inspirations. I seriously follow his advice of having a dream and fulfilling it with hard work. Now, I just wish to complete my post-graduation with a good score and build a successful career for myself.
