Students’ Speak: My first-hand internship experience with HDFC Bank

My role throughout the eight weeks was structured, and that is what helped me to learn the whole process.

Internships play an important role in the MBA curriculum and its significance could never be more emphasised. The corporate world today is more competitive than it ever has been and the way you enter a corporate determines your impression and the respect you get. Being naive is something that is not acceptable and internships help you to rise over this naiveness. Getting a good internship is of prime importance in today's world.

It feels great to share my internship story with you. I did my internship with the no. 1 ranked bank in the private sector and probably the best Indian bank in today's context, HDFC Bank. Now, when I got selected for the internship in HDFC Bank I was elated but as time went by I grew cynical of the learning opportunities. I got mixed reviews about the experience in the bank from my seniors. Some said that this opportunity was an absolute gem whereas others had had an average experience. The mixed reviews made me anxious and this continued till the time of joining.

On May 7, this complete naive person enters the HDFC Bank, Bathinda Model Town Branch, with no prior experience with dreams in his eyes and anxiety in his mind. From there, the journey has been interesting and lively. The naive boy that entered the branch that day has lived a beautiful and a learning journey from thereon.

As I joined the bank, I was warmly received by the branch team and they filled me in with my roles and responsibilities for the next two months. That made me sure that one thing that must not concern me for the next two months is learning. My role throughout the eight weeks was structured, and that is what finally helped me to learn out of the whole process.

My responsibilities included cold calling, field sales and enhancement of digital footprint fo the bank. This internship gave me a crude experience of how it feels to work in a bank. This internship helped me to grow confident and understand how a corporate works from the inside. If there was something that I would cherish for life is my decision to intern with the HDFC Bank. I am indebted to UBS, PU, Chandigarh for providing me with such a platform, and I hope my final placement experience would even more enriching.
