Students' Speak: Parameters taken into account for assessment during PI (Personal Interview)

Kabila is an engineering graduate, pursuing her MBA from Thiagarajar School of Management. Albeit with a work experience of 2 years in her profession, she has always been passionate about being a Tamil orator and has presented various fiery speeches in Media, Institutions and Election campaigns. 

Basic Tips:

• Firstly, it’s all about body language and personality which should be picture perfect during an interview
• Secondly, a firm handshake. Also, wear comfortable and professional attire only and for girls, light makeup is preferable
• Finally, the way of speech, eye contact, usage of vocabulary and phonetic including note, pitch & tone

Skills required for PI:

• Communication skill is the topmost criteria During PI, Initially, anyone would feel nervous but once you start talking, it gets easier.
• Time management is the essence and is considered as the first step towards success. Being punctual and polite is important during an interview. Proper entry and exit would also be an add-on.
• Analysis of everything is required. It is quite tough, however, this would help the candidate in standing out. Speaking about analysis, candidates should make sure that they are observing everything to its entirety.
• A candidate is always expected to give a perfect answer, to achieve the same make sure that you think through before you speak
• Knowing the boundaries of what, where & when is required. Also, drink enough water to avoid panic situations. Try to keep your calm and everything would be under the control & on limits during an interview
• Exhibiting values could also be scoring for a candidate. Values would be the first kind that moulds the character of an individual. So whenever you get a chance exhibit values during the interview
• Confidence in speech & actions is also essential during PI. Such an impression should be created during the interview where the recruiter has left with no other choice but to recruit you
• The depth of the answer should always depend on the length of the question. If the recruiter has asked a brief question then it should be answered in a brief manner, then elaboration is not required

On what basis overall performance is judged? 

• Knowledge about the company, its expectations from the team and the insights of the post/ role is required before applying for the job
• Overall, it would be a connection of the personal mindset and the company’s objectives. If it matches, then you’re in.
• The recruiter may also assess general knowledge of the candidate which might also include current affairs. That’s the only gateway to check whether the candidate is updated or not.
• Listening skills may also be assessed depending on the recruiter and job role. If the role requires a lot of listening skills, then prior importance is given to that.
• Kinesics & Proxemics also play a vital role while assessing. It includes the proof for the details given in the resume this would help in assessing the background of the candidate
• A little bit of humour makes the session interesting; this sometimes might work in your favour and the recruiter might like you
• Relating applications to real-life situations might also be assessed in fewer cases. So, prepare for such scenarios as well
