Students' Speak: Placement Eligibility in SIES College of Management Studies
By: Romil Bheda
It is also important for all the students to read the job description (JD) of a company properly since it makes hardly any sense to apply for a particular job role just for the sake of it.
The final placement eligibility criteria usually varies from company to company and depend on certain factors. These factors mainly comprise of - location constraints, past academic scores, relevant work experience, amount of work experience, etc. For example, there have been some instances of one company offering multiple job profiles with each having its own criteria. There are also some firms which are known for hiring only freshers while there are some recruiting only non-freshers.
There are also several filtrations done by the companies for the roles requiring some work experience as well. The range of this work experience may vary from zero to four years. There are certain job profiles which require hands-on experience on a particular technology (SAP, for example), to get shortlisted for the further interview rounds.
It is also important for all the students to read the job description (JD) of a company properly since it makes hardly any sense to apply for a particular job role just for the sake of it. Assuming that a student applies for a job profile without carefully reading the JD and somehow get placed too, he might have to struggle a lot during the training phase later, thus turning out to be a huge waste of both time and efforts of both that company as well as the student. Needless to say, it will also create a negative image for the college.
Location constraint is an aspect some candidates must keep in mind before applying for a job profile. A student should be ready for any location where the company wants him/her to send. For example, the companies stating their job location as “Pan India” can send the student anywhere as per the business requirements. If you are choosy regarding the location, you should refrain from applying for that job and apply only where the job location is explicitly stated in the JD. In case someone needlessly negotiates the job location, there are chances of companies blacklisting the college which will only cause damage to the college as well as suffering to the future batches.
Many companies also keep a benchmark in the academic scores to filter out candidates. The company might segregate the students purely on the basis of scores achieved in the past and/or current academic studies. The minimum score required for one to seat in most of the companies is usually 50-60% (depends entirely upon the company). Attendance doesn’t play any major role here in SIES when it comes to being eligible for the final placement processes.
