Admission to SPA Bhopal’s B.Arch program itself requires candidates to clear the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main and meet the institute’s cutoff, followed by counseling through JoSAA.
The School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) Bhopal has launched a pioneering elective module in animation and digital visualization for its Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) students. Announced in early April 2025, this initiative integrates advanced AI-driven animation tools, virtual reality (VR), and augmented reality (AR) into the curriculum, aiming to equip students with cutting-edge skills for creating immersive architectural walkthroughs, urban simulations, and dynamic design presentations.
As India’s creative-tech industry grows, with the animation and VFX market projected to reach $2.5 billion by 2026, SPA Bhopal’s module positions students to meet the rising demand for innovative visualization in architecture and related fields.
The animation module, offered as a 6-credit elective in the third and fourth years of the B.Arch program, spans one semester and includes hands-on training in software like Blender, Unreal Engine, and Adobe After Effects. Students learn to create 3D renderings, interactive VR environments, and animated urban design models, with a focus on storytelling for client presentations.
The course also covers AI tools for generative design, enabling students to explore automated workflows for complex architectural forms. Collaborative projects with SPA Bhopal’s Department of Design encourage interdisciplinary learning, blending animation with product and graphic design. Industry partnerships with leading Indian VFX studios, such as Prime Focus and Red Chillies Entertainment, provide workshops and internships, offering students real-world exposure and career pathways in animation, gaming, and architectural visualization.
Course Eligibility
Eligibility for the module is limited to B.Arch students in their third year or higher with a minimum CGPA of 6.5, ensuring foundational design knowledge. Admission to the module is merit-based, with a cap of 30 students per semester to maintain hands-on learning quality. Interested students must submit a portfolio showcasing basic design skills and a statement of interest to the Department of Design by June 2025 for the upcoming academic session. Admission to SPA Bhopal’s B.Arch program itself requires candidates to clear the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main and meet the institute’s cutoff, followed by counseling through JoSAA. The program is open to candidates with a minimum of 50% marks in 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
This initiative reflects SPA Bhopal’s commitment to aligning architectural education with global technological trends. By fostering skills in animation and digital visualization, the institute aims to produce graduates who can innovate in India’s burgeoning creative and architectural sectors, contributing to both aesthetic and functional advancements in the built environment.
