Plaksha University Launches School of AI and Computer Science; Raises INR 1,500 Crore Through Philanthropy

The INR 1500 crore fund is supported by industry leaders including Bharti Foundation, Axis Bank, Havells, HT Parekh Foundation, Indorama Ventures, Binny Bansal, and Hitesh Oberoi.
Plaksha University announced the launch the School of AI & Computer Science. The School will be a global centre for AI research and education. It will focus on AI in healthcare, sustainability, and ethics, while also encouraging entrepreneurship and robotics. With industry partnerships and collaborations with institutions like Penn Engineering and the University of California Berkeley, students will gain international experience and tackle real-world challenges.
In addition to the School of AI & Computer Science, Plaksha University has also launched the HDFC Limited Innovation Hub. This hub is created to drive entrepreneurial growth and technological innovation, promoting hands-on learning, design thinking, and collaborative projects.
These significant announcements were made during Plaksha University’s Foundation Day celebrations. Industry leaders, academic experts, and policymakers were present at th event highlighting the university’s adherence to promoting collaboration between academia and industry.
Prof. Rudra Pratap, Founding Vice Chancellor of Plaksha University stated “With the launch of the School of AI & Computer Science and the HDFC Limited Innovation Hub, we are building an ecosystem where students are not only technically skilled but also socially conscious innovators.“
INR 1500 Crore Raised Till Date
The university's announcement to begin the School of AI & Computer Science is backed by INR 1500 crore fundraising milestone through collective philanthropy. Some of India’s most influential business leaders and entrepreneurs including Rakesh Bharti Mittal (Bharti Foundation), Harish and Bina Shah Foundation, Axis Bank, Havells, Deepak Parekh (HT Parekh Foundation), Binny Bansal (Ex-Flipkart), Suchitra Lohia (Indorama Ventures), Hitesh Oberoi and Ambarish Raghuvanshi (Info Edge), Neeraj Aggarwal (BCG) and SK Jain (RatnaTraya Capital).
The amount raised through the collective philanthropy effort aims for the development of cutting-edge research centres and labs and also to support scholarships for meritorious students, ensuring that financial barriers do not hinder access to a world-class education.
