IIM Shillong achieved a significant milestone with the successful conclusion of its first-ever Model United Nations (MUN) conference, Anveshan 2025. Supported by Punjab National Bank (PNB) as the official partner, the event saw participation from students across the country and became a platform for discussions on global policy, diplomacy, and governance.
Deep Dive into Global Diplomacy and Governance
Anveshan 2025 featured two high-level committees that encouraged thoughtful deliberations on pressing international issues. The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) discussed the impact of non-state actors on governance in the Middle East, a region deeply affected by political instability and conflict. Meanwhile, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) conducted a Continuous Crisis Simulation, testing participants’ abilities to make real-time decisions and strategize on urgent global crises.
These committees provided an enriching experience for the delegates, offering them a deeper understanding of global challenges and the diplomatic mechanisms in place to address them.
Keynote Address by Dr Kaustubh Sonalkar
A key highlight of Anveshan 2025 was the keynote address by Dr. Kaustubh Sonalkar, a renowned policy expert, author, and former CHRO of major Indian conglomerates. Dr. Sonalkar shared valuable insights on leadership, global governance, and the pivotal role young minds play in shaping international policies. His address resonated with the delegates, encouraging them to think critically about their role in global affairs. As a token of appreciation, Dr. Sonalkar presented his bestselling book, Fetch Your Own Coffee, to IIM Shillong Director, Professor DP Goyal.
Recognition for Exceptional Performances
The event recognized outstanding delegates for their exceptional performance in the committees:
- Best Delegate (UNGA): Sanskriti Modgal (St. Edmund’s), representing Saudi Arabia
- Best Delegate (UNSC): Md Rezaul Islam (St. Anthony’s), representing the United States
In addition, High Commendation and Special Mention awards were presented to several other delegates who demonstrated exemplary diplomacy and leadership throughout the event.
Platform for Networking and Cultural Exchange
Beyond the intense debates and policy discussions, Anveshan 2025 also served as a platform for networking and cultural exchange. Participants had opportunities to engage with faculty members, exchange ideas, and build connections that could shape their futures in international relations and governance. The event concluded with a bonfire night and musical performances, offering a refreshing break and a chance to celebrate the spirit of collaboration.
