Live your own dreams, not of others: Shivali Singh

DEI, Agra

Firstly, I would like to inform you that I am still unemployed but I am striving to get a stable and settled life. Now, all of you will wonder why a unemployed girl is giving you guidance but do not worry, my guidelines will not waste your precious time.

I was a studious girl. I still am, no doubt. When I was a child, my parents wanted me to become a doctor. So, up to 12th, I was trying to fulfill my parents’ dreams. But unfortunately, I failed in that. Maybe there was a lack of self-confidence. Self-confidence is one of the most fundamental qualities required for success. So, firstly, develop self-confidence. One more thing - there is always a weak point in every individual that prevents him or her from finding success. So, for being successful, you also have to work on your weakest points.

Here, I would like to give you all a small piece of advice. Before heading towards your future, firstly, analyse your strengths, your weaknesses, you likes, and your dislikes. Then only move towards your future. Instead of wasting your parents’ money, it’s better to do something that is relevant to your future. Live your own dreams rather than someone else’s.

Now I will tell you about my college life. I have completed BSc Chemistry Honours from Dayalbagh Educational Institute, Agra (DEI), session 2014-2015.

For any undergraduate or postgraduate course, you have to give an entrance exam and after qualifying in the entrance, you are called for the interview. DEI offers full-time courses as well as distance courses (for some courses).

In the entrance exam, they ask you questions related to culture, maths, science, etc. (depending on the course you have applied for). In the interview, they can ask anything.

The best thing about this institute is that you get your result on time as compared to other institutes in Agra.

DEI offers many courses according to the interest of the student such as BSc, BCom, Home Science, BTech, arts and vocational courses, etc.

Talking about the teachers of the institute, they are well-mannered as well as well-behaved. Their way of teaching is unique. Hence, the students do not find any difficulty in understanding. The teachers at DEI are very cooperative. They not only teach their subjects and help us in covering our syllabus, but also provide career guidance. The teachers also take the students on educational tours, sometimes.

Every day, they take a small test that keeps the students updated about all the subjects and attentive towards their studies. Every Saturday, many competitions are conducted, such as singing, rangoli, skit, drama, essay writing, etc. This institute does not allow the students to carry mobile phones. Use of mobile phone is strictly prohibited. That is the plus point of this institute.

Daily attendance is of a lot importance in my college. Extra marks are given to students for full attendance.

Every year, each faculty organises a fest in which many games, cultural activities, etc. take place.

Not only DEI, but every institute would provide you good guidance but it’s your responsibility to decide how you want to mold you career. My 3 years in this institute have been very memorable. I learnt lots of new things there.

Last but not the least, all the best for your future!

Thank you.

Thinking of DEI? First, go online and apply (offline option exists too). Then, depending on your course, you'll either give DEI's entrance test or something like CUET/JEE. If you make the cut, they'll call you for an interview or counseling. Once you're in, wrap it up by submitting documents and pay
