Self-preparation is the key to success: Varun

Varun, who is currently pursuing MSc from University of Lucknow, believes that being positive and having faith in your doing can help you achieve your goals. Get details on Shiksha.

Every success story starts with failure. Likewise, I got stuck badly when I was unable to crack IIT entrance despite securing 90% marks in my 10+2. I worked hard but I only saw failure. But after a few months, I overcame the fear of failure and decided to do BSc from University of Lucknow. But I began to lose that passion of studying and hard work. I was satisfied with whatever marks I got and the hunger of getting good grades or being good in the subject was gone during the three years of my graduation period. I changed my aim to banking and SSC and started preparing for those exams. But I was never meant for that.

I began to realize my mistakes and the lazy behaviour of mine when I enrolled myself to MSc (Mathematics) program in University of Lucknow. Always remember that study never goes in vain. One of my friends and I decided to prepare for competitive exams like GATE, CSIR NET, NBHM, etc. from our second year of post-graduation. It was not easy to prepare by ourselves without any proper guidance. We somehow arranged notes of different coaching institutes, purchased some good books and started our preparation. It was not at all easy but studying together gave us both the boost we required.

Practicing a lot of questions and searching content repeatedly for clearing doubts helped us gain more and more command over our topics. I was all set for the exam in December 2016 but due to few marks, I was unable to qualify. I again gave the paper in June 2017 and qualified NET (JRF). Self-preparation was the key to my success and I believe that after seeing the hard times, you enjoy success more. Be positive and have faith in your doing, and believe that you can achieve your goals. But it all starts with believing in yourself. Now I am pursuing my PhD and am really happy with my decision.

The path I chose was not at all easy but when you are willing to do hard work, you are good to go and be a face in the crowd, rather becoming a part of that the crowd. I hope my story provides a boost to the students who are in their tough times and motivates them to start preparing for their goals with more positivity and energy.

The University of Lucknow offers 450 seats for the BTech course. These numbers of seats are distributed across several specialisations. Moreover, the LU is a state university, and it follows seat reservation according to the authorised government. The seats are reserved for the reserved categories.
