Moin, An airline pilot operates a plane's engines and controls to navigate and fly the vessel. He or she also checks hydraulic and engine systems for pre-flight safety and monitors fuel consumption and aircraft systems in-flight.
To be a pilot you can go for Aeronautical engineering. Aeronautical engineering is an upcoming specialization in the field of mechanical . It is a sub branch of Aerospace Engineering along with Astronautical Engineering.
Aeronautical Engineering specializes in aircrafts, missiles and helicopters. A lot of companies hire aeronautical engineers for the construction of aircrafts, for efficiency testing, flight testing etc, for the design purposes, for the maintenance, functioning & manufacturing of aircrafts, for investigation of crashes, impact on environment etc, as air traffic controllers.
Aspiring airline pilots are required to complete a certain number of hours of flight training to qualify for licensure. To obtain a commercial pilot's license, 250 hours of flight time - in addition to 1,500 hours of flight time for an airline transport pilot certificate - is required. Flight training can be completed through degree programs or through flying schools approved by the FAA. Airline pilots must also have a minimum of 40 hours of instrument flying experience in-air and through simulation. Instrument flying ratings demonstrate a pilot's ability to fly in low visibility conditions.
If you don't want to go for degree, you can go for CPL. To be eligible to pursue the CPL course, you must have completed 12th or equivalent with Physics and Mathematics with at least 50% marks from a recognised board. You must be minimum of 18 years to be eligible to pursue the course. The pilot training course duration is about 2 years and fees varies from Rs. 12-18 lakhs depending on the training institute.
For your engineering or CPL, you can join some good university/ institute. In some universities airlines Jet airways, Indigo airlines as well as Indian defense services come for recruitment thus making it easy for you to fulfill your dream.
