I would not suggest anyone to drop any of his/her precious years. Most of the time people who drop after making several tries do not make it to JEE and then inevitably, they go for some private college after wasting a few precious years of their lives. The trick is that if you are confident and sure enough that you'll clear JEE, then you should go ahead and drop (still not more than a year). You can get direct admission in many good private colleges on the basis of your 12th marks too.

You can't get admission in Diploma course in VIT. But you can get an admission for a degree course once you complete your Diploma with around 80%.
All the Best!
