Students who have completed their PG degree with 60% aggregate or a CGPA of 6.5 on a 10-point scale along with a UG degree in Engineering or Technology with 70% aggregate are eligible to apply for PhD from NIT Delhi. Additionally, students must also have a valid score in GATE or UGC NET for final selection. The institute also conducts two objective-type written tests followed by an interview round for admission to this course.

Admission to the PhD programme is based on an entrance test followed by an interview. Candidates with UGC-NET (including JRF), CSIR NET (including JRF), SLET, GATE, teacher fellowship score or who have passed MPhil Programme is exempted from the entrance exam but is required to appear for a Personal Interview (PI).
