The minimum eligibility criteria to pursue PhD at MGKVP is that students must have completed their UG and PG degrees with a minimum aggregate of 55%. Those who have done an MPhil degree with 55% aggregate are, however, also eligible for admission to this course. Final admission to PhD is subject to the Research Entrance Test (RET) conducted by the MGKVP. Applications for admission to PhD programme are screened by the Committee on Postgraduate Programmes (CPGP); shortlisted candidates are then called for an entrance test conducted by the University, followed by a PI round. UGC-NET/ CSIR-NET qualified candidates are exempted from the entrance test and called directly for PI round.

For PhD programme, candidates are selected on the basis of marks scored in entrance test and performance in interview round conducted by the University. The entrance test is a theory paper based on postgraduate level syllabus with a weightage of 80 per cent. The remaining weightage of 20 per cent is given to the candidate’s score in interview.

Candidates seeking admission to the NMIMS School of Business Management PhD course must have passed a Master's degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with a minimum aggregate of 55% or its equivalent.
