Students seeking to pursue the PhD admission at Kaziranga University must satisfy the following eligibility criteria:
- A Master's degree with a minimum of 55% marks or is equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 10-point scale OR a 4-year/8-semester Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 75% marks or equivalent.
- Candidates who have completed the M.Phil. programme with atleast 55% marks in aggregate or it's equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed.
Note: A relaxation of 5% marks or it's equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/Differently abled, Economically Weaker Sectio

Candidates need to complete a MDes degree from an accredited institution or recognised university of India to apply for NID Gandhinagar PhD course. Aspirants who have passed MPhil Design from a recognised institution or university of India are also eligible to apply for PhD programme.
Candidates with Master of Architecture/ Fine Art/ Applied Art or BDes from NID with three-year professional or teaching experience can also apply.

Candidates with M.Phil degree from a recognised university are exempted from taking the entrance examination, if the degree has been obtained on or after July 11, 2009. Selected candidates are further called for a personal interview round.

The eligibility criteria for PhD Management and Commerce programme offered by School of Business Management NIU is that the candidates must have a master's degree with atleast 55% marks in aggregate and a bachelor degree with atleast 75% marks in aggregate. A relaxation of 5% marks may be given to candidates from SC/ST or EWS category. NIU does not offer any direct admission in the courses candidates have to give an entrance exam conducted by the college.
