Annamalai University Chidambaram History:

One of the oldest established universities in South India, spread over 1000 acres, came into existence on January 1, 1929.
It was founded by Rajah Sir Annamalai Chettiar, a philanthropist and visionary.
It was founded with the sole purpose of promoting the Tamil Language and Literature, for which the founder united three already established institutions.
In the year 1928, Rajah Sir S. RM. Annamalai Chettiar handed over three of his founded institutions (in the early 1920s), Sri Minakshi College, Sri Minakshi Tamil College and Sri Minakshi Sanskrit College, to make a University.
