SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) reaffirmed its position as a pioneer in sports education as 880 student-athletes received sports quota certificates at a special ceremony held on campus. The event also marked the inauguration of the SRM Sports Hostel, a dedicated residential facility designed to support high-performance

athletes by providing an environment that seamlessly integrates sporting excellence with academic achievement.

The sports quota certificates were presented, and the SRM Sports Hostel inaugurated, by Thiru. R. Aadhav Arjuna, Hon'ble Minister for Public Works and Sports Development, Government of Tamil Nadu, in the presence of Dr. T. R. Paarivendhar, Founder Chancellor, SRMIST; Dr. Ravi Pachamuthu, Pro Chancellor (Administration); Dr. P. Sathyanarayanan, Pro Chancellor (Academics); Shri. S. Balaji, Trustee, SRMIST; Thiru. S. Thiyagarajan, MLA; and Thiru. B. Vijayaraj, MLA.

The event also honoured distinguished SRM alumni who now serve the people of Tamil Nadu as Ministers and Members of the Legislative Assembly, reflecting the
University's enduring legacy of nurturing leaders across diverse fields.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. T. R. Paarivendhar, Founder Chancellor, SRMIST
said: "Seeing 880 of our students receive sports quota certificates today is a moment of immense pride for the entire SRM family. I hope they draw inspiration from Thiru. R. Aadhav Arjuna's thirst for knowledge, determination, and perseverance as they strive for excellence in sports and in life."

Speaking at the event, Thiru. R. Aadhav Arjuna, Hon'ble Minister for Public Works and Sports Development, Government of Tamil Nadu, highlighted the importance
of nurturing sporting talent from a young age and commended SRMIST's contribution to athlete development.

"The State's vision is to identify and nurture sporting talent between the ages of 8 and 18, providing young athletes with the opportunities and support they need to succeed. Institutions like SRMIST have been pioneers in extending financial assistance to talented sportspersons, particularly those from economically disadvantaged families, enabling them to pursue higher education alongside their sporting aspirations.Such initiatives not only strengthen Indian sport but also help build a healthier, more disciplined, and drug-free society."

Sharing his thoughts on the occasion, Thiru. B. Vijayaraj, SRM School of Law Alumnus and MLA, said:"Sports instil discipline, build confidence, and inspire young people to strive for a better tomorrow."

SRMIST has long been among the pioneering higher education institutions in India to extend substantial financial assistance to talented sportspersons, ensuring that financial constraints do not stand in the way of sporting excellence or higher education. Through scholarships, world-class sports infrastructure, dedicated coaching, and the newly inaugurated SRM Sports Hostel, the University continues to create an ecosystem where athletes can excel both on the field and in the classroom.

The presentation of sports quota certificates to 880 student-athletes, together with the inauguration of the SRM Sports Hostel, marks another significant milestone in

SRMIST's commitment to building a holistic sporting ecosystem that develops champions in sport, excellence in academics, and leaders for society.
