Indira Gandhi National Open University BA admission is done on the basis of merit scored in Class 12. IGNOU BA programme is offered across 16 specialisations. Some of the specialisations in which the course is available are Tourism Studies, History, Hindi, Sociology, etc. The duration for all these courses is three years. The maximum duration for all of them can go up to six years. The medium of instruction is either in English or Hindi. The course is offered in two cycles, January and July cycles of admission.
To earn a BA (Hons) degree, a candidate must complete courses worth 148 credits in at least six semesters. The honours programmes have a mix of the courses:

IGNOU provides study material in both online and offline mode. Students applying for admission can choose the mode to receive the study material. Students are not charged anything for the material. In case student opts for hard copy, they receive the study material by post within a few weeks of applying for admission. Students need to submit assignments before the deadline given by the university. As per the information collated from web, If any student does not submit the assignment and recieves the hall ticket, he/ she can appear in the Term End Exam conducted by IGNOU University. However, the assignment section in the grade card will show 'Not Completed'. Assignments are an integral part of the curriculum because the same carry 30% weightage during evaluation. Certain programmes are not allowed under the simultaneous registration. Students are advised to visit

These forms are processed region-wise on a first-come-first-serve basis. Therefore, the time required for the processing of forms for different regional centres may vary depending on the number of applicants from the respective region. It is compulsory to carry IGNOU ID-Card when appearing for the exam. However, in case a students forgets to bring the same, he or she can show an identity proof like Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, etc. Most of the exam centres accept identity proof in such cases but to avoid any kind of conflict, students must carry their IGNOU ID-Card along with an identity proof and admit card.
IGNOU offers only very selective programmes to international students through its overseas partner institutes. These partner institutes render student support services to such students. Such students aspiring to pursue IGNOU programmes must contact the concerned partner institute in their vicinity and fill out the admission form along with the requisite fees within the stipulated time. In case a candidate misses the deadline for IGNOU registration, he or she can write mail or contact the admission office for assistance. In case nothing can be done, he or she then needs to register in the next cycle. IGNOU conducts admission in two cycles-January and June. Admission to most of the courses is based on merit of the aspirants in the last qualifying exam. In case of courses such as B.Ed, PhD and PB BSc Nursing, admissions are offered based on entrance exam scores.
IGNOU application window is open and students must qualify the eligibility criteria set by the institute. After the successful processing of the form, the University will provide further information concerning confirmation of admission, allotment of the study centre and other details for induction, etc. in due course of time.
Once you get admission in IGNOU in distance education, students have to submit assignments, appear for term end exam and if required submit practical file.
- Assignments: Students can check the assignment on the official website of IGNOU as per their year of admission. Students have to submit the assignment within the specified time to their designated study centre. Some study centre might accept online submission. However, it is advised to submit a hard copy as well. Assignment has weightage of 30%.
- Term End Exam: Term End Exam are conducted two times a year-one in December and other in June. Candidates can check the datesheet for the same on the official website of IGNOU.
