IGNOU Library

The IGNOU library is the most resourceful information centre in the country in the field of Distance Education. The library has the largest collection of books, journals and other related materials in the field of Distance Education, throughout the country. It was established in 1986 in tune with the objectives of IGNOU. The primary mission of the library is to support the educational and research programmes of the University by providing physical and intellectual access to information. Following the objectives of the University, the library aims to develop a comprehensive collection of documents, useful for the readers.

The Indira Gandhi National Open University operates through a three-tier system having University Headquarters at Maidan Garhi, New Delhi; Regional Centres and Learner Support Centres scattered all over the country. The Central Library caters to the needs of Academic, Administrative and Supportive staff and students at the headquarters. The RCLs look into the library requirements of Staff, Students, Academic Counselors and Academic coordinators at Regional Centres and the SCLs to meet the needs of the students exclusively. The Central Library has been using the LIBSYS, an integrated Library Management software package with all the modules for the library housekeeping operations. Using LIBSYS Web OPAC, users can search the Library online catalog by Author, Title, Subject, and Keywords.

Q:   How will the lab classes be conducted for MSc Physics at IGNOU?
A:

IGNOU offers MSc Physics in the distance learning mode, which means that students can complete the theoretical coursework online or through self-study, but they may face challenges in accessing laboratory facilities. IGNOU conducts laboratory sessions in collaboration with partner institutions that offer laboratory facilities. During the MSc Physics programme, students are required to attend practical laboratory sessions that are held at selected regional centres of IGNOU and other partner institutions.

The practical sessions are conducted for a limited number of days and hours, usually on weekends or holidays. To attend laboratory sessions, students need to enrol themselves for the lab sessions by paying a separate fee for each lab course and selecting their preferred study centre. The study centres are selected based on their proximity to the student's location.

During the laboratory sessions, students will be provided with access to various lab equipment and tools required for conducting the experiments. Experienced lab instructors will guide the students through the experiments and assist when required. It is important to note that laboratory sessions are a crucial component of MSc Physics and students need to complete the lab sessions to fulfill the programme requirements. Therefore, it is recommended that students plan and schedule their laboratory sessions in advance to ensure they can attend them and complete the programme successfully.

Q:   Do classes take place in IGNOU?
A:
Yes, Indira Gandhi National Open University conducts its classes in its study centres, under the guidance of regional centres. However, IGNOU doesn't run any classes in the main campus. When a student registers for a course in IGNOU the student picks a Study Centre and a Regional Centre according to their choice. The books are obtained from the selected study centre. Also, IGNOU offers a facility called IGNOU Online' which gives its students an opportunity to study online for programmes and courses which are not available in the area where they live in.

My review about this college

Learning Experience: Course, study procedure, and exam procedure are smooth. In any course at the University, one can get so much knowledge and information. I am so grateful to the University for all these. After my admission, I received study materials and books from the study center. IGNOU sends all study material by post and also a project guide, which is very convenient for the student. It's an open university, so there's no campus placement, but it's the best open university. The evaluation of marks is a bit to...

My review of this college.

Placements: Internships are completely overtaken by students' choices. The college also arranges some internships. But there is no compulsion. The stipend offered ranges from Rs. 1,000-5,000 per month. A few companies visited the college under the placement cell and recruited a few students. Students should pass in all semesters. After the fourth semester, students are eligible for campus placements. A large number of companies come for placements, like TCS, Reliance, ICICI Bank, etc. The starting package o...
