Panjab University PhD Admission Dates 2022

Panjab University offers full-time and part-time PhD programmes in various streams and specialisations. The minimum duration to complete PhD degree is three years. Candidates, who have completed a Master’s degree in the relevant discipline with minimum 55% marks (50% for SC, ST, PwD, BC category) from Panjab University, Chandigarh, or equivalent university are considered eligible for admission to the PhD programme.

Eligibility criteria: Master’s degree in the relevant discipline with minimum 55% marks (50% for the reserved category)
Selection criteria: Those, who have qualified UGC NET/ JRF/ CSIR NET/ ICAR (JRF/ SRF) exam/ SLET (Punjab only)/ GATE or GPAT scorecard/ ICAR (NET), SPM, Teacher Fellowship holder, or passed MPhil (regular mode only) are exempted from PU PhD Entrance Exam.

Q: Can I get admission to PhD at PU without entrance?

Panjab University offers admissions into PhD programme to students after they have appeared for entrance exam. However, the university does provide exemptions on the basis of the following:

Candidates who have already cleared any of the national tests, such as UGC-CSIR NET including JRF, SLET, GATE
Any prestigious test of national-level scholarship/ fellowship conducted at all India levels on behalf of the national institution (s), for example, GPAT, and JEST
Direct awardees of fellowship for pursuing PhD
Those working as permanent teachers at Panjab University and affiliated colleges are also exempted from the entrance test.

Other: The infrastructure of the college is above average with provision of all the basic places like cafeteria, canteen, hostel, basketball court, football ground, volley ball court etc. It has an excellent parking area as most of the students come by their own vehicles. The faculty of the college consist of very young professionals who act as both mentors and friends. The study quality is average as you will expect from a government college. The annual cultural fest of the college is Apratim, which is one most famous fest in tricity after PEC fest. There is also a literary fest called Lexicon with Parliamentary debate as its signature event. Infosys is the main recruiter of the college.
