Panjab University Admissions 2026: Dates, Fees, Eligibility, Courses and Selection Criteria

 Panjab University BSc admission is entrance-based. The applicants only have to pass Class 12 with relevant subjects to be eligibile for admission. The final selection is based on the entrance exam score. Hence, candidates scoring less than 50% in Class 12 are eligible to apply for the course. But, they will have to clear the qualifying exam cut-off. In case someone fails to secure a seat at Panjab University for BSc, they can still pursue BSc at other colleges/universities offering the course. Candidates seeking admission to the BA or BA (Hons) course at Panjab University must have an aggregate of up to 60% in Class 12. This is the minimum aggregate that is needed to pursue BA (Hons) in Economics or BA (Hons) from the campus of PU. Yes, Panjab University offers a three-year undergraduate BA or Bachelor of Arts course in both regular and distance modes via its constituent/ affiliated colleges. The course is offered in both part-time modes, under distance learning and on a full-time basis. The screening process considers marks secured in the last qualifying exam and no entrance is conducted by PU for admission to this course. Candidates who have either passed Class 12 examination or BCom Part- I (old scheme) of Panjab University with at least 45% aggregate or who have passed the Class 12 with at least 50% aggregate or any other equivalent examination are eligible to apply for BCom admission at Panjab University. Hence, a candidate scoring less than 50% in Class 12 is not eligible to apply for BCom at Panjab University. Such candidates can go for other universities and colleges offering a BCom. The last date for UG application at Panjab University 26 June which started on June 2. Candidates selected after all the course-specific selection rounds are required to confirm their admission by paying the admission fee between July 21 and Aug 7. Punjab University offers a four-year BE programme across eight specialisations along with an Integrated BE (Chemical) - MBA programme. Admission to both programmes is based on JEE Main. The minimum eligibility for BE and Integrated courses is Class 12 with PCM subjects from a recognised board as per JAC Chandigarh eligibility criteria. Yes, admission to the Bachelor of Engineering programmes at PU is based on candidates' performance in JEE Main exam followed by counselling conducted by JAC Chandigarh. BE is available at five PU-affiliated colleges which are part of JAC Chandigarh counselling. As mentioned above, admission to BE at Panjab University is subject to a valid score in JEE Main exam followed by JAC Chandigarh Counselling. All the affiliated colleges of Panjab University offering BTech are part of JAC Chandigarh counselling. Hence, the selection criteria of PU BTech is completed via JAC Chandigarh Counselling. To add, the university also conducts and considers the scores of PU LEET and PU MEET scores for lateral entry admissions. Additionally, Panjab University conducts the PULEET exam for admission to the second year of BTech. However, for first-year BTech students, the university considers the scores of JEE Main followed by JAC counselling. All the affiliated colleges of Panjab University offering BTech are part of JAC Chandigarh counselling. Hence, the selection criteria of PU BTech is JEE Main followed by JAC Chandigarh Counselling.

Panjab Univeresity MBA admissions are entirely entrance-based. For admission to MBA course at UBS and UIAMS, candidates must have a valid score of either CAT or  PU MET exams, respectively. The eligibility criteria for MBA course is to pass graduation with minimum 50% aggregate in the relevant stream. Candidates qualifying all the selection parameters will be offered seat via a university-level counselling process.

In order to be eligible to pursue MBA from a PU-affiliated institute, students must have completed their UG degrees with at least 50% aggregate. However, those with a Diploma must have at least 60% aggregate in it and along with that have at least five years of research/ teaching/ professional experience. Final admission, however, is subject to a valid score in MET exam conducted by Panjab University for MBA admission followed by GD and PI. 85% of the total final selection weightage is allocated to the MET exam and the remaining 15% of admission chances are based on the performance of the candidates in GD and PI. The application fee for MBA at Panjab University Chandigarh is INR 2,710 for General category candidates. Panjab University offers two-year MBA programmes across four specialisations via the University Business School and across seven specialisations via the University Institute of Applied Management Sciences. Other than these,  Dr. S. Bhatnagar University Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology offers an Integrated BE (Chemical) - MBA to the students. For admission to the three-year LLB programme offered by Panjab University, candidates must appear for PU LLB Entrance Test and score well. Shortlisted students will have their names appear in the merit lists. Those with their names can pay the admission fee and confirm their seat in the university. Before entrance, candidates are required to meet the minimum eligibility criteria set by the university which is a pass in any bachelor’s/ master’s degree in stream with at least 45% aggregate from Panjab University or any other University recognised by the Bar Council of India and Panjab University. The applications are available online on the official website. The application fee for General category candidates is INR 2,395 and for SC, ST and PwD category students, it is INR 1,198.  

As per the internet, BA at PU is offered across Economics, History, Sociology and Psychology specialisation, among others. However, students must select the specialisation on the basis of their interest and past academic background and not on the basis of its popularity.
