B.Tech. in Biotechnology - Batch of 2026
2.4
Absolutely Dissatisfied and Disappointed.
Placements: We are currently studying, and there are 13 students in total in my batch doing B.Tech in Biotechnology. We haven't passed, but I've heard from seniors that there are very few placements from this university, and also most of them have left for other colleges for the same reason.
Infrastructure: They have a lot of land but are not providing facilities. Our department is comparatively better than others, but still, it's only satisfactory when you compare it with other departments. They just cut the connection for AC even in summer, and in most cases, there are even classes where you won't get an AC. The condition of the toilets is bad, and the water tanks also seem unhygienic. There are a lot of benches that are broken, and cleaning is also not proper. They have a Wi-Fi connection, but students don't have any benefits because we don't have access to it.
Faculty: Semester exams are okay. The teachers are helpful, but there is a lot of partiality on the basis of religion, mostly. There are teachers who are not teaching regularly, even though they come to the university. It's based on their mood. Favoritism is also present in the university, and students have to work really hard.

Good faculty but better internships required.
Placements: The average package is typically around 3-8 LPA, one can get hands-on-training in various institutions affiliated with CSIR, ICMR, ICAR, BARC etc. Recruiting companies are- Cipla, Dr. Reddy's etc. Top roles offered in this course are- Research Scientist, Bioprocess Engineer, Clinical Research Associate, Biotechnologist in R&D. Apart from this various companies apart from biotech companies provide job opportunities as well.
Infrastructure: University provides campus-wide high-speed internet access, many classes are fully air-conditioned, along with this classes are equipped with projectors. Laboratories like biotechnology lab, industrial microbiology lab, biochemical engineering lab, issue culture technology lab and bioinformatics lab are having well-equipped instruments and computers for the students. Institute has its own library separately for Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Industrial Microbiology and Biochemical Engineering apart from the University main library. There is a seminar hall in the institute for conferences. University provides hostels both for boys & girls and dining facilities. Various canteens and cafes are in the campus. There is a basketball court, field for kho-kho, volleyball, cricket and football and a separate badminton court. Convenience store, gymnasium, lake, garden and a huge crop research farm is also there. University has its own hospital with all the medical facilities. One can't find problem with banking services & ATM as an on-campus bank is for transaction facilities. Laundry services for the hostel residents. Parking space for students, faculty, and staff vehicles.
Faculty: The faculty here is very helpful and knowledgeable with most holding advanced degrees and relevant experience. They provide academic support and guidance, both in theoretical concepts and practical applications. The curriculum is relevant and aims to make students industry-ready, with a balance of theoretical knowledge and practical skills. It includes lab work, research projects and internships. Semester exams are moderate, with a pass percentage typically ranging from 75-90%. .
Other: The integration of theoretical and hands-on practical learning, access to labs for research, and exposure to real-world biotechnology challenges are among the strengths of this program. Biotechnology has growing importance in fields like healthcare, agriculture, and pharmaceuticals. The course offers opportunities to engage in innovative research and practical applications. SHUATS hosts a variety of fests, including food, cultural, technical, and sports events. JIBB, SHUATS conducts various workshops, and biotech-related events that help the students stay connected with industry trends. Students from different regions and backgrounds contribute to an engaging campus life which makes a vibrant environment. There are various clubs like photography club, literacy club, NIRMAANA club, cultural club etc. Societies for biotechnology students, bioinformatics, microbiology, biochemical engineering and issue culture students and extra-curricular activities include sports, NCC and NSS.

College life, best life.
Placements: As I am in the Biotechnology course, there are very few people who are placed. The company that came for the placement was a food company, which offered ₹17,000 per month, so very few found it helpful, and others are preparing for competitive exams like GATE and GAT-B.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the college campus is really good; there is greenery everywhere, and the infrastructure of the departments is also good. Wi-Fi is available throughout the campus and even in hostels. In my department, there are three libraries and many labs. The hostel facility is also good, with one international hostel, one old hostel, and two new hostels, each designated for boys and girls. There is a mess on the hostel campus itself, and the food quality is okay—not that bad, but not that good either. Medical facilities are also good.
Faculty: All the teachers are very helpful, qualified, and knowledgeable, and they are very supportive. They try to make us understand things in the easiest way possible. The course curriculum is relevant as it is a technical course, and we are required to learn subjects like electrical engineering and physics, which are beneficial for our course. This course prepares students to be industry-ready. Semester exams are moderate; it is not very difficult to pass.

If students want to enjoy their college life and study, then they can take admission here.
Placements: Around 60% of students are placed in our course. The highest salary package offered ranges from 3 LPA to 5 LPA. Top recruiting companies are Parle, IFCO, Hindustan Unilever, Infosys, ITC. Laboratory assistant, laboratory technician, analyst, researcher are some roles offered in this course.
Infrastructure: The classrooms are big and well maintained. Department is beautiful and big, libraries are good. The hostel facility is average. The quality of food in the mess is average. A food menu is also available. Sports facilities are good
Faculty: Some teachers are good, well qualified, and helpful. The course curriculum is good here. Classes are held on time and on a regular basis. Around 75% of attendance is compulsory to appear for the semester exams. Semester exams are not very difficult. The pass percentage is 50%.
Other: I opted for this course because biotechnology is a very big field that includes genetics, molecular biology immunology, plant and animal technology, and many. It has application in many fields like medical, agriculture, food, forensic science, etc. Placements can be improved in this course. Annual sports day is also held in this college.

Review of Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences.
Placements: About 60% of students from our college get placed. The highest salary package offered is around 11 LPA, whereas the lowest salary package offered is around 2.5 LPA. The average salary package offered by our college is 3 LPA. Biocon India and pharmaceutical companies are the top recruiters. Most of the students or about 80% of students got internships in research labs in Delhi and Lucknow.
Infrastructure: All basic needed facilities are available in our college, and the infrastructure is above average in our department. Wi-Fi is available throughout the university. Labs are in every department, and you can't complain about labs in the college. The library is the centre of our college as it has one huge central library and libraries in every department as well. The quality of food served in the mess is also good, and you won't face a great problem with food. But sometimes the food becomes tasteless as it is mess food and not very great either. Our university has its own hospital for medical facilities. Sports and games are also good here, and they are conducted at a regular interval.
Faculty: Teachers here are highly qualified. They are really helpful in your studies and academics. The teaching quality is also very good. The college is very good in academics. The course curriculum is industry-oriented. It is not much difficult to pass semester exams if you study well.
Other: B.Tech biotech is a booming course nowadays as COVID-19 has added a lot of value to the course in India as people are now realising the importance of biotech. I would wish to have a much better placement rate. Events and fests are conducted regularly.

Review of Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences.
Placements: Placements in our college are low, but it is improving year by year. Generally, companies which came here are of marketing and not of core biotech. They offer salaries around Rs. 25,000 per month. However, companies and the number of seats for placements are also quite low because the biotech sector is still a new and developing sector in our country.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of our institute JIBB is the best in the entire university. We also have separate UG and PG labs. But they need little modifications. There are smart classes, departmental library as well as a departmental canteen. Our university also provides residence and have international hostels for international students. The hostels have mess facility also, and you can avail good food at Rs.2,500 per month.
Faculty: Our department has a good number of teachers, and some are highly qualified and experienced. Some have government projects. But on the other hand, some are not that good, like everywhere. The course curriculum is also good wherein every semester you have to study approximately 10 subjects. So there are around 70 subjects in 4 years. The last semester is completely for the project work where you can go to any government lab across India for the project, or even you can do from here as well.
Other: I suggest that the lab facility should be improved, rest the faculty as I told are very good. Even our department also organises annual fest, sports day, freshers and farewell party for which our institute is regarded as best in the whole university. The university has a central library from 8:00 am - 8:00 pm from Monday to Friday. Overall, it is a good college if you are seeking for UG biotechnology and rest is up to you and your calibre.

I suggest you that keep this university as your last option.
Placements: The worst thing about this college is the placements. The highest and lowest salaries are not offered as companies don't visit here for placements. During our tenure, only 2 companies visited for placements, and that too only for sales and marketing fields. Even a single company also didn't visit here for the core field of biotechnology.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of our college is average. Our college doesn't have centralised air-conditioning, but it has air-conditioners in 2-3 classrooms and some labs. There are many canteens on the campus and also many restaurants outside the campus at a walkable distance. I am sure if you join in this college, you will have to go to every food spot since mess food is really disgusting.
Faculty: There is a combination of both teachers, i.e., none of the teachers possesses all the qualities. Some teachers may help, but they are not knowledgeable. If any teacher is really knowledgeable and has a deep understanding of their subject will surely tell you that their experience is not helpful for you. Laboratory sessions conducted for students are not adequate as they have to learn even basic things like Pouring or Spreading from other institutions. Since in our laboratory sessions, only 2-3 experiments are conducted for the whole class of strength of 70 students.
Other: I have chosen the biotechnology course because I really want to pursue it. When I enquired about this college, I found that it is good, so I joined here. But after joining, I am really feeling regret with my decision. Even our college didn't conduct a freshers party when I joined here as it started conducting from the next year. A lot has changed since I joined, and now fests are conducting. Events like sports day, science day, national and international conferences are also organised here, but don't expect a lot from this college.

Review of SHUATS - Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences.
Placements: Placements are good and are offered in other countries. Companies like GDS offer the packages of Rs. 40,000 per month and the other Indian companies offered the packages of Rs. 12,000 per month to Rs. 20,000 per month. In 2017, 7 students got selected for Xolo which is an Australian company and 39 students from both B.Sc and B.Tech got selected for South Indian pathology lab and other companies.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of our college is good. Our department is air-conditioned. Wi-Fi facility is available for students. Digital libraries are also present. A hospital is run by our university. Sports and games are present. Food quality is good. The new hostel is good, but the old one is not much good.
Faculty: Teachers are helpful and qualified. They have lots of knowledge. Teaching quality is excellent. They maintain eye contact with students while teaching. Around 12,000 students are present on the campus. Many companies visit our college for campus selection. The course duration is 4 years.
