WBSU was established in 2007 by the state government. It is also known as Barasat University. WBSU has a total of 50 colleges offering courses at UG, PG and doctoral level in the field of Arts, Science, Commerce, Education, Business Administration, and Physical Education. WBSU has an Anti-Ragging Cell and sexual harassment cells for the security of the students, Sports Cell, and is affiliated with the Association of Indian Universities in 2009. WBSU has ample collaborations with Bose Institute, Indian Institute of Chemical Biology (IICB), Indian Association for the Cultivation of Sciences (IACS), Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics (SINP), Calcutta, Jadavpur, Vidyasagar, Tripura, and other Universities, National Centre for Cell Science (NCCS), Pune, IUCA, and many more.to augment the research environment within the university.
