WBSU was established in 2007 by the state government. It is also known as Barasat University. WBSU has a total of 50 colleges offering courses at UG, PG and doctoral level in the field of Arts, Science, Commerce, Education, Business Administration, and Physical Education. WBSU has an Anti-Ragging Cell and sexual harassment cells for the security of the students, Sports Cell, and is affiliated with the Association of Indian Universities in 2009.
