When it comes to placements, the interview process at NITIE is fascinating. From the start of the process to landing dream companies, the entire journey is an amazing and enduring learning experience for each and every applicant. Students gain a lot of knowledge and experience during this time, in addition to placements that they have never had before. The placement process varies from company to company. For some companies, it involves a limited number of interview rounds, while it takes many rounds for other companies.

Interviewers and their designations

The majority of the interviews are conducted by members of the company's Human Resources department. During the interviews, one or two representatives from the department in charge of the position that the company is trying to fill sit on the panel as well. The head of the department (HOD) is usually present on the panel, but senior managers have been seen on occasion. The majority of consulting firms conduct placements in three stages: the group discussion (also known as GD), the quantitative aptitude test, and the personal interview (PI).

Topics and Questions

The candidate's resume serves as the basis for the majority of the inquiries made during the personal interview round. This is done so that the HR representatives can assess the candidate's knowledge of the domain and determine whether or not the candidate is knowledgeable about the field. Additionally, HR will mainly ask behavioural questions about management when hiring for the consultant role. Inquiries about the candidate's experiences, such as the tasks accomplished and lessons learned while taking part in the SIP, should also be made by the panellists while the candidate is being interviewed. Furthermore, some businesses request information on recent events that have occurred in the relevant field to assess the candidate’s exposure to world happenings.

The participation rate of the students

This year's batch included about 468 students who took part in final placements. The remaining students are either on sabbatical at the moment or have chosen to take part in final placements off-campus. Hence, since a majority of the batch had work experience, it is easier for them to grab a more competitive package than the on-campus placement companies. Over 500 job offers have been made to these 468 students by various employers. As this has been the case since NITIE's inception, the operations branch received the bulk of the batch's requests.

Duration of the PI round

The length of the personal interview depends on and differs from company to company. For instance, some companies have a limit of not exceeding the interview timings for more than 20 minutes, while other companies do not have such a limit. The interviews ranged in length, with the shortest lasting around 8 minutes and the longest lasting around 32 minutes. Experience in the past can be used to learn this information. However, the consulting interviews frequently go on for a very long time and consume a sizable amount of the overall placement time, as sometimes it includes real-time simulation and case interviews that require analytical thinking for cracking interviews.
