In a conversation with Shiksha.com, Department head Praveen Kumar T. John Group of Institutions talks at length about the institute’s teaching methodology in detail. He goes at great length talking about practical-oriented and industry-relevant curriculum, teaching pedagogy and industry readiness as a crucial skill.

Q: What are the salient features of the teaching methodology adopted by your college? How does this differ from others?
A: The salient features of our teaching methods are as follows:
- Our teaching includes practical oriented and industry relevant focus.
- Our teaching practices include curriculum enrichment programs like guest lectures from entrepreneurs, professionals & faculty of the relevant domain.
- Our teaching also gives scope to research oriented activities.
- Peer Tutorship, Internships, Industrial Visits, and Guest Lectures will be organized by the department frequently.
Pedagogies of Teaching
- We use ICT (Information and communication technology).
- Experiential learning is one of the best methods we use, where the students are practically exposed to understand theory subjects.
- Students are encouraged to create educational videos which helps understand their curriculum better.
- Role play gives a better chance of understanding the concepts by the students. Here an individual student is given a role to act as a trainer or educator for rest of the peers.
Q: How are you preparing your students to be industry ready?
A: Industry readiness is a crucial skill in today’s time and hence it becomes equally important us fo us imbibe these skills amongst students.
- We recommend the students to do their internships at some of the prestigious industries.
- We are the 1st college in India which is practicing fashion calendar, one of the best practices, in this practice all the national and international major fashion events are included in our calendar to create an awareness of the happenings across the fashion world.
- Our assignments and mini projects given to students will be related to the current fashion activities and developments across the globe, which makes the students updated to the industry standards.
- We also have collaboration with industries which gives a chance to our students to get involved in industrial projects.
Q: What are the qualities you are looking for in student applicants? What qualities do they need to do well in your course?
- We see for the student’s passion towards textile and fashion.
- Students who want to become entrepreneurs can choose this field.
- Students need to be creative in thoughts, and hardworking.
Q: How do you ensure that your course curriculum is up to date and meets industry requirements?
- The curriculum is designed by the University.
- The student interest will be spotted in the early stage and the student is assigned to the mentor.
- Mentors will do the skill gap analysis and recommend the certification courses / training programs to the student (Mentee).
- With our unique teaching model the student also get advanced information that is happening in the industry.
Q: Is your college receptive to innovation, technology, science & entrepreneurship? How? Could you cite some examples of these?
- We encourage students to prefer entrepreneurship at the classroom level.
- The college is having IIC ( Institution’s Innovation Council). the council provide training, conduct workshops on innovation and entrepreneurship.
- IIC will also assist the students getting access to latest and expensive technology that is present in the country through its schemes.
- IIC will provide seed funding to the students for establishing the startup.
- IIC will also expose the students to collaborate with international students and universities through it schemes.
- The college also fund the students for their research and project works based on the research.
