Psychology and HR - Hand in Hand

2 mins readUpdated on Apr 18, 2020 15:34 IST

Psychology is one of the branches that purely deals with human behaviour, human observations and also predicts the results at times, so does the HR do, aren't they the both same? HR and Psychology are ‘much of muchness’, that goes really well when blended adequately.

Psychology is a powerful tool and skill that HR has. There are two sides to a job: Management and Psychology. HR recruits,  selects trains and even fires at the last resort. While doing so they ask too many questions, be it personal or professional, these questions sometimes may grill an employee, stress them up, even they too create extreme situations that hit the employee's behavior hard. Organisations primarily conduct the face to face round of interview, to analyse the behavior of an employee, to check the skills they possess because an initial screening test may ignore the potential candidate.  But these are some of the ways the employer or interviewer does to check the right fit for the organisation.

Many organisations take workplace behavior into considerations when it comes to decision making. Perhaps this is a super quality of HR personnel to manage and handle the situation with a positive response.

Azerbaijan University of Languages, explains an HRM's relationship with psychology in four fundamental questions: motivation, leadership, interpersonal relations and the selection of personnel.

HR does not want to take any risk when it comes to hiring the right fit to the organisation so they do take the help of psychometric tests, evaluatory tests. Which tells more about the behavior of the employee and their characteristics too.

Now this question may arise what all we need to get a career of this sort?

Here’s the answer, technically you require a professional degree in the HR domain another is to take up the courses of this sort, which may require a thorough search on the internet, but one must check their interest area too. Even people analytics is another emerging horizon of the HR domain. Though on a higher note ‘Experience is the key’.
