As a part of series of articles on category-wise seats intake at IIMs for MBA program, here is the third article on seat intake in MBA course (formerly called PGP) at IIMs for Schedule Caste/Schedule Tribe (SC/ST) candidates. For those candidates who have been looking to get a clear picture on the seats availability in the PGP programs, this article will prove handy as the seat-intake list has been created after thorough study of different IIMs. Still, there may be slight variations in the number of seats, as several IIMs have not updated their exact number of seats for these categories yet. We have considered the national reservation guidelines and calculated the seats availability accordingly.
Explore colleges based on CAT
Let’s start with one of the best IIMs - IIM Ahmedabad. It is considered a premier institute owing to its record of producing brilliant entrepreneurs, business tycoons and pioneer in different fields. For almost six decades, it has been the go-to business school among aspirants.
IIM Ahmedabad has produced some famous personalities including Harsha Bhogle (Famous cricket commentator & Journalist), Deep Kalra (CEO of MakeMyTrip), and Shikha Sharma (CEO of Axis Bank) among many others. It has 58 seats for SC candidates and 29 seats for ST candidates.
The IIM Trichy MBA/ PGPM selection criteria is done based on various parameters. Hence, the candidates selection is done just based on CAT score. Mentioned below are the considered parameters along with the weightage:
- CAT percentile: 50%
- PI performance: 25%
- Academic performance: 10%
- Work experience: 5%
- Female candidates: 5%
- Verbal composition: 3%
- Professional qualification: 2%
Candidates seeking admission to the MBA programme at IIM Raipur must meet the overall and section-wise CAT percentile. According to cut-off details of IIM Raipur for the year 2023, candidates having overall and section-wise CAT percentile equal to or above 90 were eligible for admission to the MBA programme.
Hence, students are advised to give equal importance to all the sections, i.e. verbal ability and reading comprehension (VARC), data interpretation and logical reasoning (DILR) and quantitative aptitude (QA) while preparing for the CAT exam to get eligible for admission to the MBA programme at IIM Raipur.
Let’s move on to our next most sought after business institute for PGP – IIM Bangalore. For over four decades, it has been producing some of the best entrepreneurs and industrialists. It has an outstanding track record of campus placements. It has always found its place among the favourite B-schools.

Some of the notable alumni include Karan Bajaj (Indian American Author), Ravi Neelkantan (Indian Diplomat), and K. Radhakrishnan (Former ISRO Chief) among many others. IIM Bangalore has 57 seats reserved for SC candidates and 29 seats for ST candidates.
Next in the list comes IIM Calcutta - another top notch business school and peer of the two top IIMs. Established in 1961 alongside IIM Ahmedabad, the institute has the highest number of seats among all the IIMs. Moreover, it has given many experts in different domains.
Some of the alumni include Sunil Alagh (CEO of Brittania Industries), Ajit Balakrishnan (CEO of Rediff), and Sunil Duggal (CEO of Dabur) among many others. It has 69 seats reserved for SC candidates and 35 seats for ST candidates.

No, CAT scores are not important for admission to the MBA course at the School of Business, Sushant University. As per the info. taken from the website of the university, it conducts its own entrance exam for enrollment into the MBA course.

RGIPT allows admission without CAT/XAT/GMAT/CMAT/MAT/CUET-PG score under two circumstances. First, you should be a company-sponsored candidate. Second, if you belong to part time registration category. You will still have to fulfil the remaining eligibility criteria.

CAT is one of the accepting exams for admission to PGDM at IPE Hyderabad. Candidates with a good score in CAT can also get a scholarship. However, CAT is not mandatory. Aspirants with a score in MAT, XAT, ATMA, GMAT or CMAT exams can also get admission in the PGDM course.
