DU Admission Process for ECA Quota 2025-26

Candidates should be aware that they can secure admission to the University of Delhi (DU) under the Extra-Curricular Activities (ECA) quota. All DU colleges are required to offer seats for admissions under the ECA quota. Every year, under the ECA quota (subject-wise), each DU college offers not more than 5% of seats. Delhi University's admission process for UG courses starts after the results are out for candidates who wish to get admission to UG and PG courses at Delhi University. To secure admission to the University of Delhi, candidates must pass the Common University Entrance Test (CUET). Students need to register on the Delhi University CSAS portal who want to appear in the CUET exam to get admission to the UG and PG courses. Additionally, under the Extra-Curricular Activities (ECA) quota, candidates can secure admission to the University of Delhi (DU). Candidates should be aware that all Delhi University colleges offer seats for admissions under the ECA quota. Every year, each DU college offers not more than 5% of seats under the ECA quota (subject-wise).

DU colleges notify the actual number of seats available on their official website for admission under the ECA Quota (Supernumerary). Apart from this, every Delhi University college must mention the requirements for different ECA categories on their official website as well as the University's website, well in advance. Candidates need to take part in trials, who apply for admission under the ECA quota. Students should be aware that dates for both preliminary and final trials will be posted on the University of Delhi’s official website.

The guidelines that candidates must be aware of to secure admission under the ECA quota in the University of Delhi’s colleges are cited below:

Fill out the Application Form: Candidates are required to complete the online application form for DU admissions 2025 on the official university website. Furthermore, candidates must pay an additional application fee of INR 100 (per event for all categories) in addition to the application fee already paid for their respective categories. Candidates may register for a maximum of three ECA categories.

Upload Certificate: Candidates need to upload just one certificate (which reflects the highest achievement). 

The ECA certificates are only for those candidates who qualify for the final ECA trials. Candidates are advised to carry all their relevant certificates on the day of the trials. The original, as well as a self-attested photocopy, needs to be carried by candidates at the time of the final trial.

ECA Trials:  DU conducts the trials at two levels – Preliminary trials and Final trials.

Candidates would be allowed to appear in the preliminary trials of any event only once. Any request for a second chance of trial will not be permitted. The dates for preliminary as well as final trials have been displayed on DU’s official website, the college website as well as the college notice board. 

DU colleges will make a video of the preliminary and final trials. These videos are preserved till the last date of admission.

Marks Concession: Not more than 15% concession/relaxation in academic merit vis-à-vis unreserved category applicants (for the last relevant cut-off) may be given for admission to specific programmes (subject to the minimum eligibility of the programme).

Weightage given to Trials: Weightage in the final trials will be given to the trials and certificates in the following ratio:

The applicant must secure at least 50% marks in the final trials (38 out of 75) to be included in the final list of selected candidates.

Trials Committee: ECA trials in order to shortlist aspirants for admission are conducted by an ECA admissions committee. Members of this committee are appointed by a competent authority. Members of this committee include experts like:

Instructions for Physical Trials for ECA Admission 2025-26

1. The ECA category-wise lists of centres to which candidates must report for physical trials are mentioned in Annexure 1. The outstation candidates are advised to plan their accommodation accordingly.
2. No TA/DA/any other allowance shall be paid by the University for any candidate undertaking these trials.
3. No boarding and lodging arrangements/expenses shall be provided by the University for undertaking these trials.
4. A detailed list of candidates, organised by date and time slot, for each ECA category’s trials will be provided in due course. The candidates are advised to check the UoD admission website for updates regularly.
5. The candidates are responsible for providing their equipment, mats, writing materials, etc., as needed. No request for borrowing or sharing of the materials required shall be entertained at the trial centre.
6. The candidates are advised to have their music, instruments, and any other required props set up at least 30 minutes before their specified trial slot.
7. Please note that there are no “syllabi” for any of the ECA category trials. These trials are designed to assess a candidate’s proficiency in the specified ECA category and will be conducted accordingly.
8. The candidates are responsible for their own physical and health-related issues and are expected to perform according to their capabilities. The University shall not be held accountable for any injuries sustained by candidates during the trial process. No special consideration by the jury shall be granted to any candidate who is afflicted in any way at the time of the trials.
9. In the award of scores for performance in physical trials, the discretion of the assessment committee will be final and binding, and no grievance shall be entertained on this ground. No second chance shall be given to any candidate under any circumstances.
10. The candidates are advised to wear ECA category-specific clothes or costumes suitable for the performance.
11. At the time of the performance or trial, no one else besides the candidate and the permitted accompanist shall be allowed before the assessment committee.
12. Disciplinary action shall be taken against any candidate who misbehaves in any manner with any university official, experts or judges at any time during the trial process.
13. Recording or filming of the trials by candidates or accompanists is not allowed.
14. Sufficient thoughts and care should be implemented during the presentation of the item, i.e. it should not be injurious to the personal or religious sentiments of any individual, community or nationality.
15. For categories where the physical outcome has been achieved, the University will retain all rights to use these as it deems fit.
16. Since these are in-person trials, the given time slots may sometimes vary due to unavoidable circumstances. The candidates are therefore advised to make suitable arrangements for food, water, medicine, and other essentials for a period longer than stipulated.
17. The use of any gadget (except those mentioned under specific ECA categories) or other unfair means may lead to the cancellation of the candidature under the ECA quota. This is especially true for literary categories, such as creative writing, debate, and quizzes, where candidates are likely to use the internet for ideas and answers. The use of only those gadgets is allowed as applicable under certain ECA categories.
