Sand art online course at IGNOU

Renowned sand artist, Sudarshan Pattnaik is all set to offer World's first online sand art course with the help of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and the HRD ministry. The course will launch in March 2018, and is an excellent opportunity for art enthusiasts to learn this form of art.

The introduction of the course was done almost a year back, and was scheduled for launch in March, 2018. The course is the world's first certificate course in sand art. Preparations for the launch of course have already begun, and it is expected to commence before March 31, 2018. The course is being fine-tuned as per MOOC'S (massive open online courses) norms.

The course will be taught both in theory and practical models. The theory classes will teach students about selection of sand, use of water, sand measurement and props that will be used while making art or while making a sculpture on sand, and the other processes involved with it.

When teaching through practical mode, videos will be displayed that will guide students about making sculptures on sand. These videos will be uploaded on the official website of IGNOU, and can be accessed by the students. The videos will guide students’ right from selection and gathering of sand to completion of sculpture.

Sudarshan Pattnaik feels that numerous brilliant sand artists do not get the opportunity of showcasing their talent due to lack of required academic background – this course will be extremely helpful for all such artists. Adding on to this, Pattnaik said that he always wanted India to be the first country to offer this course.

According to a leading daily, Pattnaik said, “I want to give a platform to upcoming sand artists. I have submitted the course design and syllabus and will now fine tune this. I had been waiting for their response for over a year and now they have given me assurance that the course will begin in March 2018.
