IIIT Guwahati offers BTech and M.Tech programmes in streams such as Computer Science Engineering (CSE) and Electronics and Communication (ECE). In addition to this, the institute also offers PhD in Computer Science Engineering, Electronics and Communication, Mathematics and Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS). IIIT Guwahati grants admission to the various courses of BTech, M.Tech and PhD.

IIIT Guwahati offers MTech in three specialisations in online and on campus mode. The minimum eligibility criteria for each specialisation is the candidate must have scored a minimum CPI of 6.0 or 60& aggregate in the qualifying degree. However, for every MTech spcialisations the eligbility criteria is slightly different. The specialisation specific eligibility in mentioned below:

Computer Science & Engineering: 

• Online: Working IT Professional with a BE/BTech in any discipline or MSc in Computer Science/Information Technology 
• On-Campus: BE/BTech degree in Computer Science and Engineering/ Information Technology / equivalent program or Graduation from Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) in Computer Science and Engineering

Electronics & Communication Engineering:

• BE/BTech degree in Electrical/ Electronics/ Electronics and Communication Engineering or Graduation from Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) in Computer Science and Engineering

    

IIIT Guwahati does not conduct an entrance exam of its own, instead it accepts admissions on the basis of marks secured in relevant national level entrance exam. The table mentioned below the course-wise entrance exam accepted for admission to IIIT Guwahati:

JEE Main exam is conducted in online mode as a computer based test. This is conducted in 3 different courses. The exam for B.Tech and B. Plan is completely online while the exam for B.Arch is partially online and drawing part is conducted offline.

IIIT Guwahati offers various courses to students in the stream of Engineering. The institute offers a BTech course at the UG level for a duration of 4 years. IIIT Assam offers BTech course as its popular programme in several specialisations. 

Candidates seeking M.Tech admission at IIIT Guwahati are required to apply with a valid GATE score. However, merely having a valid entrance test score does not guarantee admission. Once all the students have applied, the institute's admission committee screens all the applications and shortlists students based on their GATE scores.

MHRD Fellowships is a financial assistance for PhD students for a maximum period of five years. PhD students will get INR 37000 as monthly stipend for the first two years at JRF level and then for the next 3 years, they will receive INR 42000 per month at SRF level. 

Under the Visvesvaraya PhD scheme for Electronics and IT, students will get a fellowship of INR 38,750 per month during first and second year. After that, they will get INR 43,750 per month till 5th year of PhD. They will also get research contingency grant or INR 1.20 lac per year, as per DIC MeitY, Govt. of India guidelines. Stipend related information for other programs is not clearly mentioned on the official website.

Prime Minister's Research Fellowship (PMRF) is also offered to PMRF scholars from IIIT Guwahati who receive INR 70,000 per month for the first two years. During the third year, they will receive INR 75,000 rupees per month and in the fourth and fifth year, they will receive INR 80,000 per month. Along with that, PMRF scholars will get INR 2 lac per year which will mean they receive INR 10 lac in five years. 

The fee structure of IIIT Guwahati is segregated in three parts including per semester tuition fee, institute caution money and hostel fee. Hostel fee will be incurred only if you plan to stay in the hotel. Otherwise, you only need to pay tuition fee and institute caution money (one-time refundable fee). Do remember that you pay caution money only once throughout your course. From second semester, you will pay only tuition and hostel fee if you are living in hostel. Otherwise, you will only pay the tuition fee.

A valid score of GATE, NET, JRF or SLET exam works for admission in IIIT Guwahati PhD programs. You can check the eligibility section where each PhD has a different exam score requirement. Based on this criteria, you can plan to take the exam. For example, candidates who plan to pursue PhD in Humanities and Social Sciences, must have taken either GATE, NET or JRF exam.

Students need to pay INR 12,500 if they want to stay at IIIT Guwahati hostel. This fee also includes mess fee. Do note that hostel rent is charged on a pro-rata basis. INR 5,000 are for one-time caution money that is refundable and INR 5,000 is for tuition fee every semester. So if you are availing hostel facility with mess, then your total fee will be INR 22,500 in the first semester. Later on, with hostel fee included, it will be INR 17,500. Without hostel fee, it will be 5,000 from second semester.

For SC category students the eligibility criteria for every IIIT Guwahati PhD programme is relaxed by 5% marks which translates into 0.5 less CPI. For example, Computer Science and Engineering general category candidates should have at least 7.0 CPI. In this case, SC category students will need 6.5 CPI which is 0.5 lesser than usual requirement.

Admission deadline for IIIT Guwahati PhD programs depends on the admission date of the program. The admission dates for every course is different. Right now, admissions for PhD in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) are open.
