A majority of students start JEE Main preparation from class 11 but it's never late if the student is dedicated to cracking the exam. Experts suggest that the JEE Main aspirants should start preparing for the exam as early as possible. For instance, preparing along with the board exams is an ideal practice. This will give the aspirant a head start over the competitors and they will be able to understand the concepts better when they are taught in school. However, a lot of candidates ace the exam with just a few months' preparation. So, it also depends on the candidate’s ability, dedication and how sound is their preparation plan.

While making a preparation plan, the first question that bubbles up in an aspirant’s mind is which is more important – how long to study for or how much to study? Honestly, none of them unless they know how to study. It is much better to understand and develop a clear concept before they begin. Once an aspirant knows how to study, the next step would be to focus on how much of the syllabus can they cover in a given time frame.

The cutoff varies branches wise and also category wise. As a general category for top branch like CSE you require more than 270 to get admission in IIIT Hyderabad. You should score more than 220 marks to get into IIIT Hyderabad (other branches).

If it is easy people will score high marks and you can not even get NITs at as high as 160 marks. But if it is tough you can get even at 140 marks. Everything here is relative.
