A short review of IISER Pune.

Placements: Placement is not the main goal of this course. It prepares you for future studies like an M.Sc. or Ph.D. There is a placement cell that mostly takes Data Science students. I don't have information on the placement scene as I am not pursuing Data Science.

Infrastructure: There is great infrastructure available. Most common areas, including the main building, classrooms, and even common halls in hostels, have access to the college Wi-Fi. Undergraduate labs aren't great, but they provide a good experience in a lab. All classrooms are air-conditioned and have both a blackboard and a projector. The mess food is good, and there is a pharmacy and a clinic open 6 days a week.

Faculty: Professors are helpful. They are mostly available in the office during office hours. Teaching quality depends from person to person, but it is more than sufficient. The course curriculum may seem irrelevant during the first few semesters, but it helps support more interdisciplinary research in the future.

IISER PUNE is one of the leading science institutions of the country.

Placements: Most students opt for higher studies in Ivy League Colleges. Only 30% of students go for alternatives like industry jobs, government jobs, or MBAs. Salary packages up to 20 LPA were offered last year for students getting enrolled in research and development sector. They got enrolled in positions of scientists.

Infrastructure: Infrastructure and hostel facilities are top-notch in IISER Pune. Wi-Fi is available everywhere on the campus except in hostels. Websites like Instagram and some other websites are blocked over the Wi-Fi network. Food quality is good. There are two mess. All kinds of sports facilities are available on the campus.

Faculty: Professors are highly qualified in their respective fields with minimum qualifications as Ph.D. Many have at least 2-3 post-docs and they are leading scientists in India as well working on various projects. Curriculum prepares students not for the industry but for becoming scientists and pursuing higher studies.

Other: I want to become a scientist and I'm highly interested in space and astronomy. Campus crowd and life are great.

Beyond the classroom: Life at IISER Pune.

Placements: IISER mainly focuses on the overall learning and practical experience of the students, mainly in research in pure sciences field so placement opportunities are relatively low in IISER PUNE. Top roles include data analyst, scientific researcher, analyst, industrial research and development, etc.

Infrastructure: Facilities and infrastructure are moderate in the hostels; hygiene is regularly maintained, such that appointed staff daily clean corridors, washrooms and common rooms. WiFi is available on the ground floor of the hostel and some of the common rooms. Labs are top-tier, as they are specifically made for research purposes. All up-to-date instruments are present. Classrooms are big, air-conditioned, and of good quality to focus on the lectures. The library contains all the relevant and extracurricular materials.

Faculty: Yes, the professors are really educated and really helpful in solving any doubts and there are teacher assistant, which further help in doubts. The course is very relevant to the current real-world applications I wouldn't say industry-ready, as it's not an engineering college. The semester exam difficulty level lies in between moderate and tough. Relative grading is the system for passing and failing. You have to score more than half of the class median to pass the course.

Other: I chose this course as I wanted to do pure research in the sciences. The best thing about the course is you learn a lot and you get the real-world picture of what the advances in sciences are. Mess food can be improved. Events are no less, as there are several throughout the year for extra fun activities for students like the annual test Karvaan, cultural fests, freshers party, etc.

Students who do not wish to choose a major discipline will have the freedom to take courses of their liking and will receive BS and MS degrees in Science without any major subject specified
Course structure has 3 semesters of courses in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology and few courses from Earth Sciences, Humanities, and courses of a trans-disciplinary or foundational nature.
Starting with the third semester and into the fourth semester, students will have the option of choosing two disciplines as pre-major choices, moving on to one discipline as the major discipline.

The whole system is based on research .

Placements: Less placement is available because many would prefer to pursue a Ph.D. The best courses on campus are Chemistry and Biology. Everything is available, including lab training and projects during the semester. Many private companies, like Serum and Biotech, will invest in research.

Infrastructure: The hostel and infrastructure of the campus are very good. There is a common room for group studies, a pantry for cooking, washing machines for laundry, and a Padcare center for females. Ambulence is available on campus for emergencies. The rooms are well-equipped, and there is a reading desk.

Faculty: Every faculty member at IISER is a scientist with extensive research experience. They have collaborated with foreign institutes for research as well. Semester exams are difficult to medium, depending on the students. We can work on semester projects during the semester and access the lab at any time.

Other: I want to do research and publish my paper. I would recommend that everyone have guidance for the semester from seniors to choose the right path. Their review is essential. There will be college fests, and scholarships are also available, such as NSP, KVPY, NET, etc.

Very nice hostel facility and good infrastructure.

Placements: The placement is good in campus in 2022 but after that, the placement is not so good because it is a research institute, so most of student do higher degree instead of doing jobs. But the student who got placed has an average package of 8 LPA and the highest was 13 LPA. The companies that come here are Cipla, TCS, Akash, etc. for recruitment.

Infrastructure: The hostel is excellent and everything is fine as they provide high-speed LAN internet in every room, which has speed nearly 300 mbps. Also, the mess is very nice as it has a coupon-based system in which you have to pay on spot for your food and order the thing which is given on menu like vegetarian, non-vegetarian, etc. Also, in each room, there are only 2 people and room has enough space for 2 people. So this thing is very nice. Also, the labs and infrastructure is very well built, and classrooms are very modern; chairs are very premium and each classroom have projectors, AC, etc.

Faculty: The curriculum is good as it has 4 months of semester, which includes all the exams. After it, you can do your internship anywhere in the world, depending on the preference of your professor. The professors are very talented as they are doing their research so all of them have Ph.D.s from a well-known institute. So this thing I like very much.

Other: This course is mainly for research fellows, as it is a research institute. Also, there is a yearly event like our annual fest Karavaan and another quiz like the fest, which is Mimamsa and it is totally conducted by the student body. So life is very nice here. Also, there is a sports complex for badminton and basketball, a football and cricket ground, and a gym for the overall development of students. The connectivity is very good to the main Pune city, as you can take a city bus to Pune city, which is nearly 10 km away from the campus.

A college of hope and innovation for a great future.

Placements: Only about 10–12% of students get placed in their related fields, usually in the math department, where a majority of them apply for data science roles. Having said that, most students opt to go for higher studies in universities for their Masters or Ph.D. and earn a decent stipend.

Infrastructure: The hostels are fairly comfortable, with well-furnished rooms and common washrooms. There is 24-hour Wi-Fi and electricity. The mess has both non-vegetarian and vegetarian options, and there are a good amount of South Indian and North Indian food options. A medical facility is also available that operates from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on all weekdays.

Faculty: The course curriculum has a wide variety of topics that an undergrad would need, and in terms of research amenities, there are plenty of options. The teachers are themselves researchers and constantly instill a sense of research through their teaching. The semester exams are similar to any other CFTI and have a passing criteria of (class median)/2.

Other: I was always interested in science and wanted to pursue a life of research, so I found this course to be the best fit in comparison to the courses provided by other institutes. If possible, I would like to improve the mess system that we currently have. Other than that, the campus, festivals, and events are really amazing for Indian institute standards.

Amazing opportunity for research minds.

Placements: IISERs are the best institutes in India for research in basic sciences. As it is a research institute the placement opportunities are fairly low in India. However more than 60% of the students manage to secure seats in top universities across the globe like Stanford, Colombia University, Caltech, etc. So it provides immense scope for research through its wide network of professors and faculty.

Infrastructure: Being one of the best institutes in India, all the facilities including accommodation and classroom environment is top notch. Learning experience is amazing by classrooms with digital screens and air conditioned. The library provides a wide range of hard and soft copies of books and free subscription to the top research journals in India.

Faculty: The teachers have all graduated from the top universities in the world and have immense experience in their area of research. The course mainly focuses on introducing the students to various areas of research in the initial stages. The exams are mainly logic based in contrast to the memory based exams we had in our schools.

Other: The college life is extremely well. The seniors are very well behaved and there is absolutely no ragging involved in the hostels. There a lots of facilities for sports like cricket ground, football ground, badminton and basketball courts, indoor stadium, gym and running track. The college also hosts a wide varieties of cultural events the main event being the college fest called "Karavaan". There also a lot of student run clubs and a student body in the internal committee of the college to share any grievances with the college. Overall the campus life is very good.

It is one of the best institutes. It has great facilities and infrastructure.

Placements: Placements are well offered in various research and development departments, but most students opt for PhD positions to pursue higher studies. Still, average placements are provided in a good R & D department. It provides good exposure.

Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the college is excellent. Many facilities are provided to the students like Wi-Fi, common rooms, LAN connection in each room and many indoor games like chess and carrom in common rooms. The quality of the food served is good. It also has a separate canteen and cafeteria other than the mess. Medical facilities are available 24x7 in the college for any particular emergency. It also has a badminton court, a cricket ground, and even a football ground. Labs and classrooms are well-furnished. It also has a large library with a rich collection of many great books.

Faculty: Faculty members in our college teach us well. I am bio background student, and here in this course, I also have to study maths in the initial semesters, so it would have been difficult for me to do it, but with the help of the maths faculty and the extra effort they put into teaching, it becomes really smooth for me and other like me to cope up with the subject. The course curriculum is relevant, and it is very smartly planned, providing students exposure to all fields of research.

Other: This 5-year dual degree course is helpful for students as the curriculum probably here is unique and gives every student an opportunity to explore their interest in a variety of fields provided. It is a guaranteed value for money and not only in academics but also in terms of quality of student life, research experience, facilities, etc.

The aggregate marks for PwD candidates should be at least 65%. OR Candidates must have passed class 10+2 (or equivalent) Board examination with a minimum of five subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects) and be within the category-wise (category as per the central list) top 20 percentile of successful candidates in their respective 10+2(or equivalent) board examination. [Five Subjects: i) Physics, ii) Chemistry, iii) Mathematics, iv) A language (if the candidate has taken more than one language, then the language with the higher marks will be considered) and v) Any subject other than the above four (the subject with the highest marks will be considered)] Other Mandatory Criteria: Candidate should have appeared for the Class XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time in either 2025 or 2026 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. I am currently studying in 12th. Can PCB students give IISER exam?

Answered a year ago

Yes, for PCB students, they may sit for the IISER Aptitude Test-IAT for admission to the 5-year BS-MS Dual Degree program offered at IISER Pune and other IISERs. Proficiency in Mathematics is generally helpful, since some IISERs include basic Math questions in the exam.
