The institute has not released the placement report incorporating the overall data for the 2026 drive. However, the institute have disclosed the 2026 placement statistics till Phase I. As per the reports, over 250 recruiters participated and presented 1202 offers to the students. 1079 students were placed, of which 15 students have got international placements.

* Most students prefer pursuing PhD programs over industry jobs.

Infrastructure and Facilities:
* Excellent infrastructure, with well-maintained hostels, libraries, and laboratories.
* 24/7 high-speed internet connectivity, modern equipment, and air-conditioned classrooms.
* Good mess facilities and recreational spaces.

Faculty and Curriculum:
* Highly qualified and experienced professors with a strong research background.
* Relevant and advanced curriculum that prepares students for PhD programs and research careers.
* Strong emphasis on practical skills and theoretical foundations.

Student Life and Extracurricular Activities:
* Campus life is vibrant, with frequent events and festivities.

In conclusion, pursuing an M.Sc. at IIT Kanpur may not be ideal for students seeking immediate career prospects or high-paying jobs. However, for those interested in academia, research, or pursuing a PhD program, IIT Kanpur offers excellent infrastructure, faculty, and curriculum. Ultimately, the decision depends on your academic goals and priorities.

After JEE session 2 is completed, only those candidates who are aiming for IITs need to start preparing for JEE Advanced after clearing JEE Main. Those who are above the 98th percentile should start preparing for JEE Advanced as soon as possible. Those below this, between the 95th and 98th percentile, should focus on attempting more mock tests and previous year question papers so that they have a better chance of clearing JEE Advanced

• After the application process is over; students have to go through various selection rounds for final admission. The institute considers the merit of the candidates for MBA and PhD admission. 
• For BTech, MDes, MSc, BSc and MTech courses, JEE Advanced, IIT JAM CEED and GATE scores are considered for the selection of candidates.
• Additionally, admission to PhD and MS by Research is based on UGC NET/ CSIR NET and other national-level exam scores.
• After the exams, JoSAA, COAP and CCMN Counselling are conducted for seat allotment to BTech, M.Tech and MSc courses. However, a merit list is released by the institute for announcing the names of the candidates shortlisted for certificate, PhD and MS by Research courses followed by a counselling round. Candidates need to pay the admission fee to confirm their admission.

IIT Kanpur offers a four-year BS degree (Bachelor of Science) which is also referred to as BSc by many. At the undergraduate level, IIT Kanpur offers this programme in full-time and it provides both theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of Science. Available across six specialisations, admission to this programme is entrance exam-based (JEE Main followed by JEE Advanced). 

Candidates seeking admission to BS at IIT Kanpur must have a valid score in JEE Main, JEE Advanced and go through JoSAA counselling for final admission. Admission is completely entrance exam-based and candidates seeking admission can not get into IIT Kanpur with only the scores of JEE Main. JEE Advanced followed by JoSAA counselling is the mandatory requirement. Additionally, to be eligible for the BSc programme, students are required to have passed their Class 12 with at least 75% aggregate with Science subjects (i.e., Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics). 

In order to apply for BS at IIT Kanpur, candidates are required to go through the official application of JEE Main followed by applying for JEE Advanced. With respect to the past years' cutoff, Mathematics and Scientific Computing is considered to be the most competitive specialisation under this programme. Followed by this, Statistics & Data Science and Economics are the popular specialisations available at IIT Kanpur. However, a specialisation must be selected out of interest, past academic experience and qualification rather than on the basis of popularity and competitiveness. 

For admission to the IIT Kanpur BTech programme, qualifying JEE Main is mandatory to become eligible for JEE Advanced. Only candidates who clear JEE Advanced can be considered for BTech admission at IIT Kanpur through JoSAA counselling.
