To secure admission to question Bangalore MDes, candidates need to appear for Design Aptitude Test (DAT). NID DAT is a national-level entrance exam conducted by the National Institute of Design. 

The NID DAT is conducted in two stages, DAT Prelims and DAT Mains, propective candidates need qualify DAT Prelims to appear for DAT Mains. The final admission offers are made on the basis of candidate's performance in both stages.

DAT Prelims 2024 will be conducted on Dec 24, interested candidates can apply by visiting the official website of NID.

 The two-and-a-half-year Master of Design (MDes) programme at NID Ahmedabad is offered in five specialisations, i.e., Communication Design, Industrial Design, Interdisciplinary Design, IT Integrated and Textile, Apparel, Lifestyle & Accessory Design.

Industrial Design is offered in six disciplines: Ceramic & Glass Design, Furniture And Interior Design, Product Design, Toy & Game Design, Transportation & Automobile Design and Universal Design.

Communication Design is offered under four discipline: Film & Video Communication, Graphic Design, Animation Film Design, and Photography Design.

Interdisciplinary Design is offered under two discipline: Design for Retail Experience and Strategic Design Management.

IT Integrated Design is offered under four discipline: Digital Game Design, Interaction Design, Information Design, and New Media Design.

Apparel, Lifestyle & Accessory Design offers three discipline: Apparel, Lifestyle, and Textile Design.

The overall cost of NID Ahmedabad is INR 11.4 lakh. The MDes fees might include mutiple other fee components that must be paid during admission. Admission to MDes is based on NID Design Aptitude Test (DAT). Therefore, candidates must register for the exam and pay the NIT DAT application fee. The application fee is tabulated below:

There are 147 seats available for MDes programme at NID Ahmedabad. The seats are reserved specialisation-wise. which are tabulated below:

The National Institute of Design (NID) will conduct the counseling process for the M.Des program from April 2025. Candidates were shortlisted for counseling based on their merit ranks in NID DAT 2025.

Note that unlike B.Des candidates, M.Des candidates aren't required to submit campus preferences. 

NID may conduct multiple rounds of seat allotment depending on the number of available seats. 

After allotment of seats, the candidate has to upload relevant documents and pay the 1st semester fee to confirm their seats.

BDes course is offered through various specialisations at NIDs. Candidates who have scored within 200 are eligible for top NIDs, including NID Ahmedabad and NID Andhra Pradesh. Admission to NID DAT exam is conducted for BDes admissions to NIDs. Anticipated on the basis of last year trends, the minimum score required for NID Ahmedabad for BDes is 65.8 and for MDes, it must range between 80 and 90. 5 in NID DAT exam for the Open Category students. NID Ahmedabad admission to both BDes and MDes is offered through NIT DAT exam.

The design institute offers BDes at UG level and MDes at PG level across various specialisation in the field of Design. Candidates planning to take admission in NIDs must appear for NID DAT.
