National Institute of Fashion Technology, Chennai Courses & Fees 2025
There are a total of 24 courses offered at by the institute. These courses are offered across fields of Design, etc. They are available at the UG and PG levels. These courses include B.Des, B.FTech, PG Diploma, and MFM, etc. Admission to some of the programmes is subject to merit in the last qualifying exam and for some courses, admission is entrance-based. Admission to BDes at NIFT Chennai is solely entrance-based i.e. - The National Institute of Technology (NIFT), which will be conducting the written exams for NIFT 2024 tentatively in the 1st week of February 2024. For aspiring candidates, it’s mandatory to qualify for the written exam along with the situation test comprising different rounds. NIFT Chennai selects students based on the weightage of different parameters in each selection round. Additionally, the seat allocation is respectively common for all the reserved categories and the total seat intake is equally divided into each specialisation.
Candidates who have twelve years of school education with minimum of five subjects by the National Open School or from a recognised board are eligible for the BDes at NIFT Chennai. Additionally, as per the Institution's guidelines, candidate's maximum age should be less than 24 years (5 years relaxation in upper age for people from reserved categories). Now candidates are only required to appear for the NIFT entrance exam for BDes admission.
Joining NIFT Chennai's BDes programme without entrance exam doesn't seem like a possibility. As per the Institution's admission guidelines, candidates must appear for the qualify The National Institute of Technology (NIFT) exam. The exam is conducted once every year and has TWO parts:
- Written Exams - It comprise the GAT and CAT. The GAT paper is mandatory for all programs, while only B.Des and M.Des candidates need to take the CAT.
- Situation Test/ Personal Interview - B.Des candidates who get shortlisted have to appear in the Situation Test.

NIFT Chennai offers a total of 305 seat intake for BDes and BDes lateral entry course. The seat breakup for the BDes coursre is 43 as per the specialisations offered in BDes and for the BDes lateral entry its 47 altogether. The seat allocation has respectively common for all the reserved categories and division is equal for each specialisation. Additionally, 5 seats are given as per each specialisation for NRI and foreign candidates.

Altough, the the highest package offered for BDes Fashion Design was INR 6 LPA during the recent placement drive. B.FTech course at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Chennai costs INR 12.77 lakh. The course is four years long and is offered full-time.

The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Chennai accepts the General Ability Test (GAT) for admission to its B.F. Tech program. NIFT also accepts CAT scores for admission to its B. Des program.
To be eligible for B.F. Tech, candidates must have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as a main subject from a recognised institute. The qualifying age is 24 years as on August 1 of the year of admission. For candidates of Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribe/ Persons With Disabilities (PWD), the upper age limit may be relaxed by a period of five years.

NIFT Chennai selection process is entrance-based mainly. The institute conducts an entrance exam of its own. Students have to appear for the NIFT Entrance Exam first. The test includes Creative Ability Test and General Ability Test.
