B.Sc. in Biotechnology - Batch of 2024
2.8
Great faculty, great experience. Just don't go there expecting a student of the year life.
Placements: So it's not that the college doesn't try. They do. They have a career conclaves every year for the third-year students where companies offer jobs to students. But because it's National College, Biotechnology students are usually neglected I feel. This year, when I was in TY, there were 30+ something companies there to offer jobs and only one of them was a biomedical company which actually didn't even show up. So if you want jobs, you better build your CV, get a strong Resume and good LoRs which the teachers will happily provide.
Infrastructure: Washrooms are terrible here. The only functional Ladies' washrooms is the one in the Girls' Common Room which was just recently made. There's another near the auditorium on the ground floor which is close to an abomination. They did renovated but all they did was change the direction of the entrance. Seeing the condition of the college, absolutely no one will even imagine that one of the colleges trustees is THE HIRANANDANI. I remember being in the open basketball court for the Science exhibition and it was a wind day. I was standing by my posters ready to present with my two colleagues and right above is was a roof-shed which was just flying about because of the wind and we were scared to death that it may cash down on us at any moment. The funding that is received by the college by DBT isn't even being used by the college for the Biotechnology department. We order chemical and other things which are absolutely essential in a biotech lab and we are still always short on resources, limiting our chances to gain practical knowledge. It's all thanks to the teachers who still somehow manage to teach us with everything they have in them, not letting the lack of resources be a problem.
Faculty: THE FACULTY IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! We always say the teachers are our second others. The faculty at the department of biotechnology has definitely proven it to me. They are my second home, my second family, my role model, my mentors, my everything. They are simply the best group of teachers I have ever had to good fortune of meeting and studying under. They have always tried to do what is best for students trying to get them as much experience as possible. If it wasn't for them, I would've never had all the experience I have today.
Other: If you're really interested in biotechnology, it's worth the money. The faculty makes it worth studying there because I can guarantee you won't find a faculty like this anywhere else. The crowd. That's a grey area. I don't like the crowd here.

Above average college overall, good faculty, placements, and infrastructure could have been better.
Placements: Career guidance sessions and job fairs are organized every year for 3rd-year students. Around 10-20 students get placed every year. The top recruiting companies are Himedia, Laurus Bio, and Loba Chemie. The roles offered include content writers, desk jobs, and lab technicians. Packages range from 60k-20k with an average of 30-40k monthly for B.Sc. students. Around 60% of students get internships from Himedia and Loba Chemie.
Infrastructure: Hostel facilities are not available in the college. However, classrooms have projectors and AV system facilities. The classrooms in the old buildings are not in very good condition and need renovation. The canteen was very good; however, it got shut down last month. Basic first aid medical facilities are available, and there is a badminton court and a basketball court available for use on the campus.
Faculty: The teachers are helpful and have an industrial background, while some are pure academics. Some have PhDs, which is very helpful in this course. The teaching quality is very good; topics are explained well and followed up by practical applications every day. Yes, the curriculum is very relevant, teaching important theoretical concepts, and the practical aspects enforce knowledge of technical aspects, making students ready for the industry. Exams are moderately difficult; however, with a good grasp of the topics, they can be passed. 85% of students pass.
Other: I was interested in biotechnology, so I chose this course. I heard the biotechnology department is one of the best in Mumbai. Renovating the classrooms and painting would be a great step, as well as improving the washrooms. Several events and fests are organized throughout the year, with each department hosting their own fests.

Satisfied with the college, and I would recommend it for others also.
Placements: R D National College is the best I have ever seen in my career. The professors in our college are supportive. The average number of students in my division is 25. They provide internships to every student as per their commuting facilities. Medical scientists and project assistant roles are offered, and you can also be a professor or teacher.
Infrastructure: The facilities provided are the best, and they provide journals also. The library is huge and can accommodate more than 100 students at a time. Wi-Fi is available in the library. Laboratories are huge, and many students can perform practicals at a time. They are clean, and the lab assistants are helpful and guide students in using the equipment. The classrooms are huge. It has the best canteen, and they wear gloves while making food. The staff will clean the canteen, and it's so hygienic. The campus is huge, and you can play games also. Sports and basketball facilities are available.
Faculty: The teaching quality is the best. The teachers are knowledgeable and help us understand everything. They explain everything deeply and give us more knowledge. They guide us in the best way. The exams are tough. But the person who listens carefully and understands whatever is taught can score good marks. 35% is the minimum passing percentage.
Other: I want to know in-depth about this field, and I have an interest in this field. I want to do post-graduation so that I can learn more about this field. Food fest, fashion show and many fests are celebrated, and it's Sindhis college, so they also celebrate Sindhis Marathis fests.

Satisfied with the faculty but would wish that even we should get campus placement.
Placements: Most of students have opted for Master's programme and the remaining student's who are working, their starting salary is 15000 to 20000. The students get internship in pharmaceutical companies as well in research and development Department of KEM and Nair Hospital.
Infrastructure: We have been provided with the laboratory, classroom acquainted with AC and Library. The library contains almost all books required for reference. The lab is well acquainted with all the glassware, reagents and other kits required for the practicals. I don't stay in the hostel, so would not be able to review regarding it.
Faculty: The teachers are helpful and well qualified as well as knowledgeable. Certain teachers have completed their Ph.D. from Germany and Texas. The course curriculum is relevant as it includes immunology, fermentation, biosafety level labs and many more. Yes, it does makes the student industry ready.
Other: I have chosen this course as my interest was more inclined towards biology and the best thing about this course is that there is no much of the maths involved in it and it is based on humans body. I wish that the syllabus would have been organised properly year wise rather than randomly just giving it to students. Our department has a fest named as helix which is organized every year by the students and teachers, it includes activities relevant to the course.

Absolutely satisfied because of the facility.
Placements: There are no placements as such however the department does support in Co-curricular activities to add value to the CV. Industry exposure is average. Students are guided to take significant projects for additional domain knowledge. Recently in 2019 four students were sent Germany for a project.
Infrastructure: Library is excellent providing space for students to study with more than 3000 books available from different domains. Quality of classroom is average. Campus is spacious. Auditorium, Basketball court and Badminton Court help students during Extracurricular activities organized by college.
Faculty: Faculty members are well qualified. Few Faculty are Ph.D. and have network in the industry. They carry immense practical and theoretical knowledge about the subject. Faculty members are available beyond lectures and are very helpful to the students. Mentoring and PTA sessions provide the insights and scope of improvement to the students.

Satisfied with this college.
Placements: No placements were given. They have their own placement cell, they even created a day where companies were called but no one got a call or got selected to any companies. No one did any internship during my batch. What I learned in my course was all about microbiology and other studies related to science.
Infrastructure: The Wi-Fi and computer labs for students who can use it for free for studies and project work. Classrooms are of average facilities with at least 3-4 working fans and some room with air conditioned. Canteen here is good they serve good and spicy food.
Faculty: Teachers here are very helpful and highly qualified in Biotechnology Department. Every teacher in the faculty has cleared CSIR NET and are well experienced. Biotechnology is a growing field with mostly related to research and development in near future.
Other: They organize festival Helix every year which is huge opportunity for students. Campus is big and good. Even fees can be paid in installments on time.

Good faculty, poor infrastructure and zero placement through college.
Placements: I did my bachelors degree from this college. Among my batch mates, None of them got any placement through college since no placement drive took place. We did got opportunity to attend placement drives conducted for commerce students. Other than that, placements in BPO were available.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure of RD & SH National college is just fine. Some parts are quite well structured whereas others are in bad condition. Best part of the college is its campus, which is always occupied by students creating a good vibe. Classes and labs need improvement.
Faculty: Faculty has been one of the best offered. The teachers are well qualified for the job as well as have good abilities. The teaching quality is extremely satisfying. The curriculum provided is through the Mumbai university which is not at all up to the mark.
