The Institute has a state-of-the-art infrastructure with a well-stocked air-conditioned library, advanced technology laboratories, a food court, a sports complex with swimming pool, hostels and many other amenities. It also houses an Entrepreneurship and Incubation Cell, which promotes the start-up culture among the students. Additionally, a high-performance computing facility called 'Param Shavak' has been installed at SMIT in collaboration with C-DAC, Pune.
The Institute has academic collaborations and twinning programmes with several universities, such as Leicester University, Lancaster University, Andrews University, Milwaukee School of Engineering, etc. It has also signed six major MoUs, including the Aurel Vlaicu University of Arad, Baekseok University (BU), Jan Witkowski University, College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS), National Taipei University of Technology (Taipei Tech), University of Padova and Firma Polkowski. Such tie-ups result in collaborative educational and research activities besides the exchange of students and faculty. Apart from this, SMIT has completed 52 sponsored projects worth Rs 15.4 crore. The Institute's list of sponsors comprises government organisations, such as AICTE, DST, DBT, DIETY, DRDO, ISRO and many others.

SMIT Admission Process
The application process for all the courses generally begins in March every year. Candidates, who wish to take admission to SMIT, can fill and submit the online application form available at the Institute's website. SMIT admission process for all the UG and PG courses is mentioned in a brief below:
UG Courses
- SMIT BTech admission is based on a candidate's performance in the SMIT Online Test/ JEE Main/ MET
- Admission to rest of the UG programmes is merit-based
PG Courses
- The Institute accepts CAT/ MAT scores for admission to the MBA programme. The shortlisted candidates are selected through Group Discussion and Personal Interview round
- Candidates seeking admission to the MTech programme need to qualify GATE/ SMIT Entrance Test
- For admission to MCA and MSc IT, candidates are required to qualify an entrance exam conducted by SMIT
- Admission to other specialisations in MSc is based on the candidate's academic merit

SMIT Courses
The Institute offers over 20 full-time programmes at UG and PG level. The duration of the BTech programme is four years and that of the rest of the UG programmes is three years. On the other hand, the duration of all PG programmes is for two years. The selection criteria for all the programmes is either based on the academic merit of the candidate, or their merit in the respective qualifying exam. The Institute also conducts its own entrance exam to accept admission to some of the courses. The exam is generally held in the last week of April every year. SMIT Scholarships
The Institute offers up to 30% fee concession to the meritorious students, depending on their aggregate percentage in Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics (PCM) in Class 12. The SMIT scholarships are granted to BTech students on the basis of the following criteria:

SMIT also offers a concession of 20% on course fee to the candidates of Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh. Also, 10% concession on course fee is offered to the immediate siblings of SMIT students. Those sponsored by the Government of Sikkim are granted 75% of fee concession.
