B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering - Batch of 2023

Absolutely a value for money.
Placements: In my course, the placement rate is above 80%. Good companies like Tata, Google, Amazon, etc. come to me for good opportunities. But you have to work hard to achieve your goals. Our faculty members are always there for you if you need any kind of help.
Infrastructure: I used to stay in hostels. Or believe me or not, your hostel life will be the most precious memory you will get from SMIT. Infrastructure is very safe and beautiful. Cleaning staff do their work properly to provide you with a clean and healthy environment.
Faculty: Our teachers are the best mentors you will ever get in your life. They are helpful, qualified, knowledgeable, and very good at teaching. They will help you in every way to get you ready for the upcoming world. If you focus on your studies, nothing is holding you back from passing the examination.

B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering - Batch of 2017

My overall experience is satisfactory.
Placements: The Placement Cell of the college is led by some of the most experienced professors who help students train for the upcoming interviews as well as a standardized test during placements and the cell also updates about the recruiters visiting the campus. Some of the Placement during 2017 are Siemens, Wells Fargo, Dell, Ericsson, Capgemini, Wipro, TCS, Tech Mahindra, L&T. To my knowledge, the highest package offered was 10 LPA and the lowest was 4 LPA.
Infrastructure: The college has a very good Infrastructure and had been under further improvements during 2017. The college has all the necessary facilities and equipment and I never felt any lack during my laboratory classes. The high facility workshops and the helping lab assistants always encourage extracurricular projects outside academics. The Cafeteria and mess are well maintained and new facilities are being added in the recent past that includes facilities for almost all indoor games. The hostels and quality of food are decent and as far as medical facilities are concerned there are doctors available all the time in the campus.
Faculty: I pursued Bachelors in Technology in Mechanical Engineering and I am glad to say that the quality of teaching was good and the curriculum is updated and includes all the recent developments in the field. The professors are very well qualified and helpful in every aspect. Overall, the faculty is phenomenon in other departments as well. The curriculum makes it mandatory to pursue industrial experience during the third year which makes the students apply their theoretical knowledge in an industrial environment.
Other: The reason I chose mechanical engineering was that I was always very passionate about machines and the inside engineering done during the production of machines and the course provided me with the exposure I needed to gain enough knowledge to work as a Mechanical engineer with the help of its intense curriculum as well as extracurricular activities that includes monthly fests and annual fest where students are given the opportunities to display their innovative ideas. Moreover, the campus surrounding is quiet and perfect for students and the campus will never let anyone feel that the institute is situated in the hilly area.

B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering - Batch of 2018
3.2
3Placements4Infrastructure3Faculty4Crowd & Campus Life2Value for Money
Teachers were very helpful, young, supportive and smart.
Placements: I got graduated from Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology in 2018 bearing a Mechanical Degree with a 7.8 CGPA. Now, I want to be straightforward so there are literally 0 placements for core branches. My batch strength was around 1000 students with the majority of students from CSE, ECE, and EE and the total % of placements was around 70%. But, there were no core companies for Civil, Mech, and EE. They were either placed in IT, Sales, or Marketing companies like TCS, Wipro, Capgemini, Byju's, IXIA, ClearTax etc. The highest packages were around 15 LPA by Dell and Microsoft, the lowest was around 3LPA. The average was around 4.5-5 LPA. Amazon, Microsoft, IBM, MuSigma, Dell, Ericson, L&T were some of the top companies. Internships were only offered to students who got placed in the 7th semester and were then converted into jobs.
Infrastructure: A batch of 120 was divided into 2 sections. We had massive classes with all the facilities available (Wi-Fi, Projectors, Smart screens, AC). Labs were technologically sufficient all no expense was spared as mechanical labs need heavy machinery. Lathe, CNC, 3D printers, 10 different types of IC engines, Cast, alignment, pneumatic and hydraulic machines were some of the equipment available. Hostels were great as they were double sharing with attached bathrooms. Food quality was average at a single mess while canteens were great with food reasonably priced. If you are into sports, no one will stop you even if you play 24 hours. You'll get A-grade facilities like established cricket ground, 4 BB courts, 4 Badminton courts, 2 Tennis Courts, 2 Squash Courts, 1 full-size pool, etc.
Faculty: Teachers were very helpful, young, supportive and smart. The curriculum was the problem. It was very orthodox with attention to old methodology and not supportive for life after college. It's only upto the student if they take initiative they'll be helped by teachers to train for industry standards. In short, no the course was completely irrelevant as it never made us industry ready. Batch of 2020 has some different things to say so I'll suggest to check their curriculum and advice.
Other: I chose the course to become an automobile engineer. I work in education. It's my and college's fault as much as our industry's fault as the core industry appreciates a Diploma holder more than a mechanical engineer as they have more practical knowledge and we only attain theoretical knowledge. The best thing about my course would be the environment I lived in, the friends I made, the knowledge I gained, and the mentors I met. I want my course to make students industry-ready and prepare them to join the core industry rather than an IT job.

Very much satisfied with the course, faculty as well as the placements.
Placements: Around 80 percent of my batch was placed The highest package offered was 8 LPA by Dell. The lowest was 2.5 LPA and the average was 3.10 LPA. The top recruiters were Dell, TCS, Tech Mahindra, Sony, Ericsson, Titan, HCL etc. Top roles offered were Software Engineer, Project Manager etc.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is very good and well-equipped with all the modern amenities. The campus is situated between the hills and on the banks of the river. The whole campus has Wi-Fi, the classrooms and the library are also top-notch. Hostels were pretty decent with attached bathrooms. The mess food is above average. And these are all the other basic amenities like games, gym, dispensary, canteen etc.
Faculty: All the faculty of the Mechanical Engineering department were knowledgeable. There are many Ph.D. holders in our faculty. They help us with all our requirements and also they all have good grip in their respective fields. The course curriculum is relevant as our college goes with the latest courses and subjects offered.
Other: I had chosen Mechanical Engineering as it is one of the core branches of engineering. Plus all the things about machines amaze me. One thing I would like to change is that I will involve a more practical approach.

It is the best college because of its good placement record, nice infrastructure and good teachers.
Placements: It is the second-best college in North East. The highest salary package offered here is 22 LPA, and the average salary package offered is 4 LPA. Recently, JLL is a top recruiter for core branches. Microsoft, Amazon and Shell are major recruiters for other branches.
Infrastructure: Our college has a good infrastructure and eco-friendly environment, which is perfect for education. Hostels are always very fine here, and they provide all the facilities to students. The quality of the food served in our college is very fine compared to the food served in other institutions. All types of facilities related to hostel and food are provided to students here.
Faculty: All the faculty members here are really very good with helping nature. In this college, students get enough opportunities to make their career. Our college makes students industry-ready. It always provides enough exposure to make students ready at the end of their course. Our college is the best for all types of students.
Other: Scholarships are always provided for deserving students.

A:

SMIT requires applicants to have obtained at least 55% of the possible points in their final recently qualifying exam in the relevant field to get to be admitted. Still, for B.Tech programs, the candidate's performance in the SMIT entrance exam or other recognized entrance examinations, for example the JEE/MET/SMIT Online Test, and for M.Tech programs, the candidate's performance in the SMET test or a valid GATE score, determines the admission process.
