St Xavier's College Kolkata offers more than 12 courses at the UG, PG, PhD, Integrated, and BEd, levels. The college also offers many other courses such as Career Oriented Programme, and a Diploma in Multimedia and Animation among others. The admission criteria are merit-based for all courses. Students are required to go through the national-level entrances and then appear for counselling for final admission. Yes, St. Xavier's College Kolkata was recognised by the UGC as an 'Autonomous' college in 2006 and as a 'College with Potential for Excellence' in the same year. The college has since become a 'College of Excellence' in 2014 and a 'College with Special Heritage Status' in 2015. The college is also ISO 9001:2015 certified and was given an A+ Grade by the NAAC.

The college conducts placement drives every year. However, more than 500 students were placed form various department such as Economics (Hons), Mathematics (Hons), BCom, MCom etc. through on campus and off campus placement drive. Earlier, as per the placement brochure 2022, more than 650 students were placed. Many top recruiters visited the campus such as PwC, Accenture, ICICI Bank, Shiksha.com among others.
