We are living in a time when design requirements are everywhere. If you are not looking for a traditional career option like medicine and engineering, and are interested in design, then you can go for B.Des or Bachelor of Design. There is a growing requirement for good designers. They are required everywhere, from home design to website design for businesses and product design.

There are various speciality fields in B.Des related to different industries. Top B.Des specializations include Interior & Furniture Design, Graphic Design, Fashion Design, Animation & Multimedia Design, Textile Design, Product Design, and Industrial Design. To take admission to B.Des course, there are various entrance tests, including NID DAT, UCEED, CUET UG (for design) and NIFT entrance exam.

B.Des Salary in India depends on various factors, like how much experience you have. Similar to any other industry, if you are starting as a fresher after completing the course, you can expect somewhere between INR 3 Lakh to INR 8 Lakh per annum. In senior roles, after you get more than around 8 years of experience of working in this industry, you can expect from INR 12 to INR 25 lakh per annum.

About Bachelor of Design

It is one of the most sought after undergraduate course for aspiring designers. It is a four year course. This degree helps students to develop creative, technical and problem solving skills to do well in the design industry. The first year of the course teaches the basics of design, and the remaining three years students learn the specialized topics in the field.

With increase in the demand, many youngsters choose to pursue B.Des In India. There are around 2,400 design colleges in India, of these 1,268 are private institutes and 313 are government run colleges. After completing the B.Des course, students can work as - Art Director, Industrial Designer, Graphic Designers, UI/UX Designer, Game Designer, Multimedia Designer, Exhibition Designer, Textile Designer, Fashion Designer, Interior Designer, Car Designer, and Product Designer.

Q:   How many seats are available for Interior Designing in NID?
A: 

The Interior Design programme is offered both for the BDes and MDes courses. At the BDes level, the Interior Design programme is offered under the faculty of Industrial Design, with a specialisation in Furniture and Interior Design. There are currently 13 seats for the programme. At the master's level, MDes in Furniture & Interior Design course is offered at the NID Ahmedabad campus. The intake capacity for the MDes programme is currently 19 seats. Admission to the Interior Design programme (both Bachelor's and master's) at the NIDs will be through the NID DAT exam.

Q:   What is the Cut off for NIFT Mumbai for B.Des (Textile Design) 2025?

Q:   What are the design courses that will be offered through NID DAT 2027 exam?
A: 

The NIDs offer a full-time B.Des programme of 4-year duration, and a full-time M.Des programme of two-and-half years duration. 

The institute, in addition, also offers a PhD program. The programme can be pursued full-time or part-time. 

Admission to the design courses at the NID is conducted through a Design Aptitude Test (DAT). The exam comprises DAT Prelims and DAT Mains.

Q:   How can I select my preferred NIFT participating institute for admission to the B.Des programme?
A: 

The candidate will be able to select their choice of NIFT participating institutes (in the order of priority) at the time of filling out the NIFT counseling registration form.

  • Online registration for NIFT counseling will start soon after the final results are declared.
  • The counseling registrations for NIFT will be open to candidates who have qualified in the NIFT entrance exam.

The cut-off for NIFT Panchkula is released category and programme-wise. So, candidates seeking admission to a particular programme need to consult the cut-off in their reserved or open category. For the year 2022, the opening CMR of Dom. OBC category for the Fashion communication was 6023; the closing CMR was 6414. The opening CMR for admission to the Fashion Design course was 5182, while the closing CMR was 5298. Meanwhile, for the M.Des programme, both the opening and closing CMR for the Dom. Recruiters After You Do B.Des

The designers get hired in various companies. In technical companies HP, Apple, Google, Microsoft, and Adobe are companies that hire product designers and UI/UX designers. In IT services, the top recruiters are Wipro, Infosys, and TCS. They hire for product and digital designer roles. Top companies in e-commerce that hire design graduates include Myntra, Amazon, Nykaa and Flipkart. Fashion graduates are also hired by the fashion and retail industry and design and consulting industry.

Hero MotoCorp Ltd. in the automotive industry is one of the top recruiters of design graduates. In furniture and interiors, Godrej Interio, IKEA, and The Grid hire design graduates. These graduates are also in demand in the media and entertainment industry like Reliance Media Works Ltd. and Zee Entertainment.

Q:   What are the various Masters courses for which NIFT cut-off would be released?

NIFT master's programme is offered in Master of Design (M. Des. ), Master of Fashion Management (M. F. M) and Master of Fashion Technology (M. F. Tech. ). 

The cut-off would be released separately for all these courses. This means, if the candidate meets the cut-off criteria for M. Des but fails to meet the cut-off for M. F. Tech, in that case the candidate will only be eligible for admission to the M. Des programme. So, the candidate needs to check out the cut-off or closing ranks for the programme they are seeking admission to. The cut-off would be determined by considering factors like total applicants, seat intake, merit ranks of the applicants, and also admission category.
