SEED Entrance Exam 2024 - The Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID) released the application form for SEED 2024 on August 26, 2023. The application form is for admission to the B.Des program offered by participating colleges. The last date to apply for SEED 2024 is November 30, 2023.

Eligible candidates can apply by following the registration link given below.

The SID admission registration fee is INR. 3250.

The Symbiosis Institute of Design will conduct SEED 2024 on January 7, 2024 (tentative). It is a written exam that will be administered in an online, remote-proctored mode.

The duration of the exam will be 60 minutes long, during which the candidate has to attempt 60 questions. Questions could be MCQ, Match the Columns, Fill in the blanks, image-based, and comprehension-based. 

Candidates who qualify in the written exam will next have to appear in a Portfolio review and Personal Interaction (PRPI) round. The results of SEED 2024 will be announced around the 4th week of January. The scores of the written exam will be used to prepare a SEED shortlist for PRPI, which will be released soon after the declaration of SEED 2024 results.

The FINAL merit list for admission to the B.Des program will be prepared by considering the cumulative performance of the candidate in the Symbiosis Entrance Exam for Design (SEED), Portfolio Review, PRPI Task, and Personal Interaction.

What is SEED?

Symbiosis Entrance Exam for Design (SEED), is a design aptitude test conducted by the Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID) and is the 1st stage of the two-step SID admission process. Candidates who qualify in the SEED, which is a written exam, has to next appear in a Portfolio Review and Personal Interaction (PRPI) round. The merit list of SID will be prepared by considering the cumulative performance of the candidate in the Symbiosis Entrance Exam for Design, Portfolio Review, PRPI Task, and Personal Interaction. 

It may be noted that from 2019 onwards admission to BDes courses offered at Symbiosis School of Planning, Architecture, and Design (SSPAD), Nagpur is also done through the SEED exam. 

The SEED exam evaluates candidates on parameters like color, geometry, visual observations, general design awareness, creative thinking abilities, and awareness of Indian culture, craft, traditions, etc.

Q:   Is SEED 2024 exam compulsory for admission to the B.Des program?

A:

Yes, Candidates seeking admission to the B.Desprogrammeneed to compulsory appear in the SEED 2024 exam. The scores of the SEED 2024 exam will be next shortlisted for a Portfolio Review and Personal Interaction round. Note that the final merit list will be prepared by considering the cumulative performance of the candidate in the Symbiosis Entrance Exam for Design (SEED), Portfolio Review, PRPI Task, and Personal Interaction (PRPI).

So, any candidate who appears in the SEED but doesn’t appear in the PRPI will not be considered for admission. 

The B.Des is a 4-year course carrying 160 credits.

Q:   Do I need an elementary drawing exam certificate for admission to the B.Des programme through SEED 2024?

A:

Candidates are not required to submit an elementary drawing exam certificate for the Admission Procedure at SID. The candidate merely needs to meet the academic, qualifting exam, and age criteria. Eligible candidate next needs to appear in the SEED 2024. Those qualifying in the exam will have to next appear in a PRPI round. The final results would be prepared by giving weightage to the SEED 2024 exam and the PRPI.

Q:   Are there any coaching classes/ preparatory classes that candidates can take to prepare for SEED 2024?

A:

As per the information given on SID website, the institute does not promote or is aware of any coaching classes/preparatory classes. So, the candidate has the discretion to decide whether the want to join any coaching institute of not. Note that there are many coaching institutes that offer preparatory classes for exams like NIFT, NID DAT, etc.

The candidate also has the option of downloading preparation materials online. But note that most practice materials are chargeable.

Q:   I have done foundation programme/Diploma from another institute. Do I still need to appear in SEED 2024 or I can get direct admission?

A:

The Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID) does not have any provisions for direct admission to second year. So, candidates have to compulsory take admission in the first year of the B.Des program. Note that admission to the B.Des is only through the SEED 2024 exam.

Scores of the qualifying exam will not be considered for admission to the B.Des program. Neither does SID accept scores of other popular entrance exams like NIFT, NID DAT, etc.

SEED Application Form 2024

The Symbiosis Institute of Design has opened the application form for SEED 2024. The application is hosted online at sid.edu.in and is for admission to the B.Des program offered by participating colleges. The step-wise process to apply for SEED 2024 is given below.

How to fill out the SEED 2024 application form

  • Get registered - In the registration form, enter details like email id and mobile number to get registered. On successful registration, an applicant account will be created.
  • Fill in the form - In this step, fill in your personal, academic, and contact details. Also, select the Test Centre preference.
  • Pay the application fee - After ensuring the application fee is complete in all respects, pay the exam fee of INR 3,250. The fee has to be paid in online mode using net banking, credit, and debit cards.

SEED 2024 Eligibility Criteria

Symbiosis Institute of Design will release the eligibility criteria of SEED 2024 for admission to the B.Des at the time of the release of the admission notification sometime in September 2023. The candidate must ensure they meet the prescribed eligibility criteria because otherwise the candidate can be disqualified at any stage of the admission process.

SEED Eligibility Criteria 2024

  • Cleared Class 12 (from any stream; e.g.: Science, Commerce, Arts, etc.) or equivalent (Or)
  • Cleared 10+3 diploma approved by State Board of Technical Education with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks (45% marks or equivalent grade for Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribes).

Aspirants who are appearing for their final exams in the 10+2 or 10+3 diploma programs exam pattern also meet the SEED 2023 eligibility criteria on the condition that their final exam results are declared latest by June of the admission year.

Note: Any candidate who fails in his/her Class 12 examination but later appears for and clears the immediate compartmental examination which is held in the same year, in their first attempt, is eligible for provisional admissions at SID.

SEED 2024 Admit Card

The Symbiosis Institute of Design will release the SEED admit card for the written exams tentatively in the 1st week of January 2024.

The admit card will carry details like the candidate's name, roll number, date and time of the SEED 2024 exam, and exam guidelines. Given the SEED 2024 exam will be administered in a remote-proctored mode, the admit card will not contain any details pertaining to the exam center. 

Note that the PRPI admit card will be released separately. Also, it will be released only for shortlisted candidates.

  2. A log-in window will open
  3. Enter your SEED ID and password
  4. On log-in, the admit card will be displayed on the screen
  5. Download and take a printout of the admit card.

SEED 2024 Admission Process

Admission to the B.Des course at the Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID) will be conducted in the following sequence.

  • Apply for SEED 2024: Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria has to fill out the form before the last date. As part of the application process, the candidate will have to get registered, fill in all essential information, upload documents, and pay the application fee.
  • Download the Admit Card: Successfully registered candidates can download admit cards from the SID admission portal. On exam day, arrive at the exam center with the admit card and a valid photo id proof. The admit card will contain details like the roll number of the candidate, the date and time of the exam, and exam guidelines.
  • Appear in the SEED 2024 Exam: The entrance exam will be conducted in online, in remote-proctored mode, and include objective-type questions. 
  • Shortlisting of candidates for SEED, Portfolio Review, PRPI Task, and Personal Interaction - The result of the SEED written exam will be used to shortlist candidates for the PRPI round. As part of the Portfolio Review and Personal Interaction (PRPI) round, the candidate will have to upload a portfolio and PRPI task and participate in a personal interaction round.
  • Declaration of Result - The result-cum-final merit list will be prepared by giving weightage to SEED, Portfolio Review, PRPI Task, and Personal Interaction rounds.  
  • Counseling and seat allotment - The allotment of seats will be based on the SEED 2024 merit rank of the candidate. Such candidates who have been allotted seats will have to pay the seat-acceptance fee and confirm their admission. If payment is not done, the allotment will be canceled.

SEED 2024 Syllabus

Symbiosis Entrance Exam for Design (SEED) syllabus includes topics of Visualisation, Observational, Perceptual & Reasoning Abilities, Creative & Problem-Solving Abilities, and Application of Basic Knowledge of Science & Mathematics. As the MCQs are asked in the exam based on the above-mentioned topics candidates are advised to start their preparation in advance, especially before nine to ten months of the exam. Get detailed information about the SEED 2024 syllabus and prepare for the exam accordingly. The SEED will be a 60 minutes exam having 60 questions. The questions could be MCQ, Match the Columns, Fill in the blanks, image-based, and comprehension based.

The candidate must ensure that they complete the entire syllabus to get a good score in the SEED 2024 exam. It is also recommended that the candidate starts their preparation easily so that they can touch all the topics included in the syllabus.

In case the candidate finds some topics difficult, the candidate can move on to the next topic instead of wasting prodigious time, and come back later and retry that topic.

SEED 2024 Pattern

As per the official website, the candidates had to appear for the SEED exam and those qualifying the exam will be shortlisted for portfolio review and personal interaction rounds. The exam pattern for SEED 2024 will be such that aspirants has to attempt 60 multiple-choice questions in 60 minutes.

The questions could be MCQ, Match the Columns, Fill in the blanks, image-based, and comprehension based. The SEED 2024 paper will contain a mix of questions related to Visual Sensitivity and Judgement, Observational, Perceptual and Reasoning abilities, Problem-Solving, Basic knowledge of Logic of Science and Mathematics, Art, Craft and Culture, Design and Environment.

After qualifying SEED candidates will have to appear for the Portfolio Review and Personal Interaction Round. The portfolios of candidates should fulfill the requirements set by the institute. However, some conditions are given below:

  • Sketches, mixed-media illustrations, and digital work
  • Collaging of images, 2D and 3D articles
  • Photography
  • 3D objects like sculptures, fabric products, gadgets, art-inspired products, etc.

Note that the candidate will have to upload their portfolio and PRPI Task before the Personal Interaction round. 

SEED 2024 Mock Test

The Symbiosis Institute of Design will conduct the mock tests for SEED 2024 in the 2nd week of January 2024. In the last edition of the exam, TWO mock tests were conducted.

The mocks will be held online and can be taken by the candidate to prepare for the exam.

Mock tests are an important part of exam preparation because they help in improving time management skills and in understanding the structure of the question paper. Apart from that, practicing mock tests also gives the real idea of the exam, which helps in boosting confidence.

SEED 2024 Preparation Tips

While preparing for SEED, it is important for candidates to have a plan in mind. Here are some tips for SEED preparation

  • Make the SEED preparation strategy considering the syllabus. For instance, you need to allocate more time for difficult topics, spare time for revision and include sample papers and mock tests.
  • Refer to the exam pattern and syllabus to prepare for the exam.
  • Pick the best design aptitude test books. The aim should be to score well in SEED
  • Focus on your time management skills and improve your problem-solving skills, especially for Mathematics and Science sections. Solve sample papers and take mock tests. 
  • In the days leading up to the exam, don't pick up any new topics. Also, stay hydrated, do some light exercise, and be happy. The point is to stay in the present rather than planning too far ahead.

SEED Result 2024

The Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID) will release the first merit list of SEED 2024 tentatively in the last week of April 2024.

The merit will be prepared based on the following parameters:

  • Symbiosis Entrance Exam for Design (SEED)
  • Portfolio Review
  • PRPI Task, and
  • Personal Interaction.

The Symbiosis Institute of Design will declare the results of the SEED 2024 written exam around the 4th week of January 2024. The result will be released online at the admission portal of the institute.

Note that apart from uploading the PRPI Task and Portfolio, the candidate will also have to appear in a Personal Interaction round. A:

The candidate has to upload a digital portfolio as part of the admission process at SID. The digital portfolio must be a compilation of the candidate’s best works and showcase their skills, passion, and interest in a variety of areas and techniques. The candidate must ensure that the portfolio includes items that he or she is proud of. Try to be different and include unique and interesting things.

When uploading the portfolio, the candidate must follow the specifications and guidelines issued by the admission official.

The eligibility criteria for admission to the B.Desprogrammethrough SEED 2024 is given below:

  • Age limit - There is no age limit for admission to the B.Des program
