Mystory@Manali Shitole: How I chose my course and career path

Mystory@Manali Shitole

I am a creative person and wanted to do something in the creative field. National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) was the only premier institution in India that offered a 4-year degree course in Fashion Communication. However, the entrance procedure included an all India level NIFT written exam comprising of GAT and CAT. Once you are shortlisted you can select the course based on your All India level rank. My rank was 203 and I got into Mumbai branch for Fashion Communication course.

I am currently working with Disney which has been my dream company since childhood.

After my graduation, I went on to complete MBA in International Fashion Management from Coventry University London Campus, Central London, UK. I had to give IELTS for this and based on my transcripts, I was also offered scholarship.

I am currently working with Disney which has been my dream company since childhood. I am truly enjoying my work. There is something that you can always do no matter what; just be passionate about it.

What I gained from my college years

We had many interesting subjects like visual merchandising, photography, graphic designing, fashion designing, etc. I loved creative subjects and I never missed a lesson. I would actively participate in classes and spent hours in the library and nights working on assignments. But I loved every bit of it.

The faculty was really talented, friendly and cooperative. They would guide us on every doubt we had and pushed us to our full potential. I participated in few competitions and won for my college.

Hostel experience really helps you grow. You grow as person. You become more independent and take your own decisions and finally find your real self. I would encourage every student to experience hostel life at least once, if you get a chance.

All of these experiences put together make you a better person and more capable to face any situation in your life.
