I have been able to improve skills like public speaking: Mayukh Saha

KIIT has given me the platform to fulfill my dreams and desires. I have a diverse platform to increase my knowledge by attending the seminars and workshops arranged by the college.

I had always wanted to study engineering and that led me to opt for Science in my +2 studies. My teachers encouraged me to do the same as that would contribute in my growth to study engineering. My +2 education was an easy one as I had support from my parents and mentors which helped me keep up my work. While looking for suitable colleges, I came across Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology. KIIT seemed to be an established institution. It has also been in the top 100 colleges of India. The teachers, hostels, placements and other facilities looked pretty good. They also had many MUN signed with different universities abroad which allowed students to go for a semester abroad as a student exchange program. My parents and relatives encouraged me to take admission in this college. My rank helped me study ETC there. I am happy to have chosen KIIT as my college to study engineering in.

I took private tuitions to prepare for competitive exams. My primary aim was to crack VITEEE but my rank wasn’t good enough to give me a branch of my choice. Luckily, I cracked KIITEE (KIIT college) to study ETC. The idea of taking admission in SRM university also crossed my mind but I did not act on it due to certain issues related to the college. I gave many entrance tests like JEE Mains, KIITEE, SRMJEE, BITSAT, and WBJEE. I followed different books for competitive exams. For Physics, I followed S.L Arora, H.C Verma and D.C Pandey. For Chemistry, I followed Arihant publication books and online notes. For Maths, I looked at R.D Sharma and Arihant publication books. NCERT was a must for all three subjects. I had to work hard and keep my body fit during these two years. I also meditated for at least 10 mins daily to improve my concentration. In the morning I used to go for a walk to keep my mind fresh and active.

In college, I usually spend my time by engaging in different societies, activities and sometimes doing social work. The college is a green haven where I sometimes would walk about in the evening. On weekends, I indulge in some entertainment and go out with my friends to the movies. Classes have been great in the college with a balance of fun and study. I like to attend Maths, Physics and Computer class as the professors have been helpful and understanding. A mentor is assigned to the students who guides us with our queries. Lots of seminars, workshops, contests, and cultural programmes are held in almost every month. KIIT has given me the platform to fulfill my dreams and desires. I have a diverse platform to increase my knowledge by attending the seminars and workshops arranged by the college. I have been able to improve skills like public speaking through making presentations in classes. I have already worked with 2 NGOs and the experience was great. I felt complacent with the work that I was doing. I have been thinking of opening an NGO attached to KIIT which would work for the poor and homeless people affected in the cyclone Fani.
