Mystory@Apurva Banka

I would rather choose a better branch in a not-so-popular University rather than going for a lesser-known branch in a popular college.

When I was in 6th standard, I had an interest in Science because of the unlimited scope it has. I always had the passion of inventing something new and for the same, learning Science was important for me. After 10th standard, I also got to know about computer science which attracted me a lot. I really enjoyed studying Science in my +2, knowing what science was capable of. I followed a notion in life while opting for colleges. I would rather choose a better branch in a not-so-popular University rather than going for a lesser-known branch in a popular college. I always had an inclination towards Computer Science. It’s a fact that CS gives you the freedom of doing anything once you have the basic knowledge of the subject. And so, I ended up opting for CSE in PES University, Bangalore. So far, I am enjoying the subject and expect to continue the same in future.

How I cracked college admission

PES University conducts PESSAT, its entrance test. Before 2013 the college was affiliated to COMEDK but after that it started it conducting exams of its own. The exam had 120 questions and a time limit of 180 minutes to solve them. It was all about speed with accuracy. The exam did not include very deep conceptual questions but more like the JEE MAINS patterns. The questions were not difficult but most of them tested your memory.  I also gave MU-OET and BITSAT which were of the same pattern. I was a resident of Ranchi, Jharkhand. There I had joined an institute, Brother’s Academy which helped me crack PESSAT. I was also trying for NITs and some private colleges like BITS Pilani and BIT, Meshra with my MAINS score. Although I ended taking admission in PES university, Banglore.

What I gained from my college experience

My college has help me develop my leadership skills.

My college PES University situated in Bangalore is a renowned University in Karnataka. My branch is CS and presently I am in the 2nd semester. Our college is famous for having the most number of Clubs for the extracurricular. Although my college is small but fulfils all the basic needs of a student. I mostly enjoy the weather of this place. The teaching system at my college is very good. All the class are effective and the teachers care for the students. The examination system is also modified at my college. For mid-semester exams we have computer based tests (CBT). Also, in every semester other than the general subjects we study an extra subject – this is just to help the students gain some knowledge and information about engineering.

My college has helped me change a lot. Getting to know new people and sharing their ideas has really changed my way of seeing things. Also, the exclusive coding languages taught at the college makes the students of PES different from the students of other colleges. My college has also help me develop my leadership skills. Attending regular labs and completing regular projects helps us understand the subject better. If ever I was given a chance, I would like to be an entrepreneur.

My college invites companies that can help me achieve my goals. All we need to do is participate in the events and the winner gets to a chance to proceed with his ideas. Also my college organises a number of workshops that help us increase our knowledge about the upcoming software and technologies. For the summer break our college organises summer internships for the students. Also, the students in not-so-popular branches can opt for a minor in other subjects. That’s all I have been able to explore in the last six months and expect to explore a lot more. I am proud to be a PESITian.

Yes, a specific upfront payment discount is available; no general merit scholarships are offered. Private, NRI, or Management quota students who pay the entire remaining course fees for 3.5 years (excluding the first-year fee) in one lump sum are eligible for a 10% discount on that remaining amount.
